  • Wasp Sting....Oww

I've just got my first wasp sting in years. I was up the plot, planting onion sets and put my hand down to steady myself only to feel a sharp sting in my left palm. At first I thought I'd leant on a nettle or thistle but when I looked at my hand there was a wasp attached to my palm. I shook it off but it's still nippy over an hour later, thankfully I'm not allergic so I just spread Germolene on it when I got back to work.

The wasp was quite big so could it be a newly emerged queen looking for a place to nest?

    Ouch!

..sounds like it could be a queen- I've noticed quite a few wasps around recently- probably with the same idea!

Thanks for the warning- the last time I was stung, there was a wasp on the far side of a dandelion flower...and that's why I hadn't seen it!...I always ( well nearly always) have a bit of a closer look at dandelion heads now before grasping them- just in case!

Oh gawd! Are they about already!?

I AM allergic, and have just stocked up on super-strength anti-histamines from the Doc. Ruddy stingy stripy-arrissed buggas!

When I was 9-10 I was stung by a wasp and our very very old neighbour told my mum to rub an onion on it! Don't know why but it's meant to stop the sting! I never did lol

I've only ever been stung once in my life (so far) on the beach in Scarborough. We went to the bar of the nearest pub and Himself asked for a pint of best bitter and a small tot of vinegar for me

Do wasps perform any worthwhile role in nature, or are they just on the planet to irritate the hell out of me in pub beer gardens ??!!

We had a hornets nest in the chimeney which is closed of top and bottom..they had got in through the brickwork and they got out somewhere in the kitchen! We realised in august and i found out that they leave in october and dont reuse their nests..so we let them stay. i got stung on the foot twice when i accidently stood on one. hurt like mad for the whole of that day and the next.not a nice experience, they didnt come for us though, one evening we had 10/15 come in ..we just opened the roof window and shooed them out with a brush.
