Why do you need to get rid of them? What problem are they causing? They like dry conditions so watering the area might persuade them to move on, but that would depend on where they are.

      Where are they?

      Water gets rid of them.
As does disturbing them and then wetting the area where they were.

The reason to get rid of them is that I found them in the house, on the kitchen table and underneath it on the floor. I cleared them with boiling water and cleaned the table and kitchen with hot water and vinegar. Then swabbed over with hot water and lemon juice.

Three days later, they were running on the kitchen windowsill and on top of the freezer. Went through the drill again. My daughter was visiting for the weekend and said she'd seen an ant establishment between two slates below a side window. OH transported the whole setup away.

I'd like to know if my method was the correct one (it's what I've done previously), also I was wondering if there's a way to repel them.

Thanks to all for your replies.

I see. I assumed they were in the garden. Can you see where they are coming in. Helpfully they do follow set paths. I've quite successfully used the ant traps you can buy, placed close to the point where they come in.

Borax mixed with syrup or jam and left covered from the rain, if outside will attract ants who then carry it back to the nest and share it around. This doesn't necessarily kill the whole colony first time but really reduces the numbers and is easily topped up. For ants outdoors nemasys no ants will do the trick too
