    Neighbours/Committees etc.

I took over a plot that hadn't been worked (I'm told) for well over five years and had been head high with brambles. It was "cleared" by the council - as in driving a bulldozer over it with the blade at ground level - so most of the bramble roots were untouched.

I've been clearing it slowly over the last couple of years, trying to pace it at a rate where I can be reasonably sure that most of the root is coming up but without putting me off digging for life. Where I haven't dug, the weeds are regularly cut back to ground level with a strimmer.

For the last twelve months, I've had a neighbour (upwind, unfortunately) who won't use any form of weed control (including pulling them out or even just cutting the flowering heads off). He just clears a few square yards whenever he wants to plant something and then just lets everything (weeds and veg) compete for space.

His plot (actually one of three he has on the same site) is now chock full of mares tail and is busily seeding dandelions over all the ground I've managed to clear.

All part of lifes rich pageant!!
