I bought a pair of workman's trousers which came with removeable knee pads,. Very handy when kneeling down particularly as I had bursitis in the past from kneeling without protection.

I work from home, so when I get up in the morning I put on my gardening clothes - you know ... "just on the off chance"
I wear proper work boots, long trousers, long sleeves if doing a job that is likely to involve lifting things like logs, or using equipment like brush cutters ... and for chainsaw I wear full protecting "chainmail" leggings etc. and when using sprayer a face-mask & gauntlets whilst mixing ... accidents don't happen when expected nor on purpose ...
For the rest its jeans and thick shirt, or shorts and t-shirt ...K's Garden blog the story of the creation of our garden

Same as I wear every day - old jeans, old T shirt, old fleece. Extremely old fluorescent yellow jacket when its cold or wet.
If I'm going out shopping or summat I'll wear clean versions of old jeans etc. I dread the days when I have to look "tidy" - I left all that behind when I stopped working for a living.

Major stuff gets done in jeans, wellies and an old fleece, light work in whatever I happen to be wearing at the time. The only thing I have done so far is set the rule that I am not allowed to go in the garden to see chickens or plants before work as I always wind up filthy and as a teacher, it isn't ideal. Hubby does early stuff, I do later
