  • Dying birds??

Was wondering if anyone has had this same problem before, in the past week we have had 2 birds either fly into our garden to die or I have gone out to find it dead. We had this last year also, I doubt these last two will be the last this year.

Ive got nothing in the garden to attract birds here so Im just wondering why they choose my garden in particular?

I would assume if you have not intentionally put food out, they must be coming in for buds, berries, grubs. Then I'm assuming a local cat gets involved.

I know next door puts seed out for them but I dont incase they break any of my veg or other plants.

One last year was propelled into my garden half massacred that missed me by half a inch, it was at such a speed we sat stunned staring at it for a minor so before we jumped up to cover the bairns eyes. I found out later there was a sparrowhawk (I think thats what its called) that was nesting near by with chicks so I assumed it must of lost its meal mid flight, but now the birds are landing and sort of falling alseep dying.

        Just find it strange :s

It may just be the time of year, there's a lot of youngsters about and they are more vulnerable to attack. I've found a couple of dead baby birds in my garden this year. And there is also one with a bad foot that is hoping around and not looking too hopeful.

I saw a House Sparrow die in our feeder last year. It is a tube feeder with a big cage round it, the smaller birds can get in through the cage, it keeps squirrels and larger birds out. There was a Sparrow in there and it was just sitting there like it was resting and gradually it just died . . . it happens to us all in the end.
