That still leaves me the challenge of creating space in an already crowded garden for what could be a real behemoth of a plant

Never one to be shackled by the evils of common sense .... I have a dastardly plan, and it might even work
DO you realise it's not a big space taking plant like other squashes,it is a weedy looking plant, that will trail through your others,so don't give away until you rethink, have a gogle, plus it can be used next year too,

      Interesting ....

What I was considering for the one I was keeping was simply to trap some old trellis between some large pots and a wall, and let it ramble up that at the back of other plants. I didn't think letting two loose on the same pot & trellis would work though. What size pot would be sensible per plant?

I had mine in 9 inch tubs last year and got 4 foot plants with loads of fruit so don't think they need much room

I don't think they need a large space,as a video on u tube showed someone telling peeps about them,he had them growing in the same trough as a squash, and let them ramble,so I take it a smaller space is fine, you could also let them hang down if I remember,it also said about nipping the tops out when aprox 6ft,to send out more shoots, will have to try and find it again,

Well, one of them has already gone to the neighbour (I did promise her one a while back), but this is now making me think I don't need to faff about wih the trellis as originally planned. I expected something a lot bigger than 4ft. I think I might try this one with standard bamboo canes and see how it goes. I can always get more next year if it's something I want to expand on

Big plant but small footprint from what I can tell. I have put a network of strings across the greenhouse window for mine to cling to. I also used a telescopic shower rail in a window frame to suspend strings for the conservatory cucamelons. A tenner from the range.

I've put up a scavanged old trellis which had been stowed behind the shed out of the way. Still need a suitable pot and some more compost though
