    Doh.

Just remembered another one, a guy told me he had greenfly on his rose's and that he had heard that washing up liquid was a good way to help get rid of it.

I said yes it could only help.. few weeks later i saw him again and asked after the rose's, for him to tell me that they where all scorched with brown leaves and, well dead.... turns out he had emptied an entire bottle of neat fairy liquid on them.

Left them dripping with pine fresh.

Im a gardener in a school . People keep asking me what I do in the summer when I have two months off.The kids get two months off - I dont .They look at you as if you have two heads and say "Oh I thought you got two months holidays as well" - I wish.
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

One of my new gardening chums insists on asking 'how many will I get on that plant?' and it took her a while to understand that lettuces only come in 1s.

A friend saw my lottie and advised me to net my strawberry plants - they were flowering merrily at the time. I had to explain about pollination and insects.

One of the 7 year olds in my class told me quite vehemently that people can't eat cabbage leaves...only rabbits can apparently

My tomatoes got yellow buds on them, like tiny flowers, should I pull them off?

I kid you not, they thought the tomatoes grew underground. Hmmm, what next, subterranean plums....?

I got a very old fashioned (practically neolithic) look from a 10 year old on a school visit. We were upstairs on the bus and I was engaging him in conversation and pointed out that we were passing a field of potatoes. He looked at me 'gone home' as they say! I think he really didn't believe that they are dug up with dirt on them. Poor, supermarkety kid!

I quote 'What on earth have you got beds in your garden for, doesn't that look a bit funny, can't you just grow stuff in the ground...and where do you sleep then?...

I must be really lucky - I got my brownies to plant up some veg in large pots to take home for the summer - I had no stupid comments and several of the girls came back the next term and reported on how many french beans, radish and tomatoes thay had grown.

One comment about not liking toms, but wanting to see one grow - came back - 'Wow Brown Owl! They tasted great!'

                        I am content
The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

At least they were trying to grow something!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Neighbour admiring all my veg in the kitchen garden said - "and can you eat them " ! Don't know what else she thought I was going to do with my lettuce.

An acquaintance once told me that she didn't like growing her own carrots, onions etc because they were so dirty....
