I wish the avatar pics could be bigger.

I've just realise my advancing age is advancing ever more quickly now! My eyesight is getting worse by the minute.

I'm a sucker for pet pics, dogs especially and when I think I see an animal in someone's avatar, I click on it hoping to be taken to a bigger version where I can actually see the thing clearly.

But alas no, the picture can't be clicked on to make it bigger. I know this but I keep forgetting.

So, to all you people who see I have visited your page, I'm sure you are all very lovely but it wasn't for you, it was to see what was in your avatar.

LOL - I wish they could be bigger too - I was going to send you bigger version of mine but I've got a new computer at work and my dog pictures are no longer on it.

It's my German Shepherd sitting next to Robert Burns in the Birks O' Aberfeldy (where I'm from originally*). Furryboots (as they say up here) are you in Perthshire?

*Edit - Aberfeldy that is, not actually The Birks - I'm not some sort of woodland dwelling troll.

.gif is a picture file format. (Graphic Interchange Format) It's good for graphics, line art, clipart, logos, those sort of images. Photographs are usually .jpeg files (joint photographics expert group) because this format supports continuous colour better. I think GYO changes uploaded images to .png format when you save them to your attachments file.

Just editing to say I just found the answer further up the thread. Still not sure what effect that would have, but at least now I've heard the term (gif).

gifs can only contain 256 colours, while jpgs can contain many many more so are better for photographs. However, gifs can also contain a series of 'frames' so someones avatar moves like a mini movie.
