  • Catch phrases.

For those of you who regularly look at allotment videos, can you put a name to these catch phrase users?

    (1) "See thee later"

    (2) "Better crack on"

    (3) "The faf scale"

    (4) "Hi chums"

Well yes no 1 is Dan and 3 and 4 are right but No2 isn't Sean, he's starting using the phrase "Crack on"
but another allotmenteer has been using it for a long time, its an up north (Geordie) phrase. He has a dog and a guitar.

As for Brendan, don't you just love his accent too, and his chatty style has me spell bound. These guys are brilliant. I also love your vids Darcy but you need to develop a catch phrase lol.

So come on who says "Crack on"

        See thee later.

I'm baffled about the 'crack on'. Is it Garryentropy? I've only seen a couple of his but I think his accent might be geordie?

Who's Brendan? I must've been missing out. The ones I regularly watch are Rick, Sean, Dan, and Titli. I agree Bill, they're all brilliant, I find them much more engaging than a lot of the 'celeb' gardeners.

Brendan is a guy from northern Ireland he goes under the name of Baconsoda he chats away while he is harvesting his spuds about all manner of things and he is a top rate gardener.

The "Crack on" guy is not Garry, he has a beard and a dog, he makes very entertaining vids but its the Geordie accent that appeals to me.

Oh well I may as well tell you its Dave, from Daves allotment. now "Crack on" and watch it

I was a bit surprised you didn't get him, but I too have noticed Sean has started using the same phrase.

Oh well must crack on, see thee later lol.

Have no idea who they are let alone be able to match them up with any phrases!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Alison, they are fellow gardeners who have made videos about their allotments, they are very entertaining.

This is a link to Dan's allotment diary, he does lots of work for showing veg and I love his videos. Worth a look.

We have several members on the vine who do this too, Darcy and Samuralord1 leap to mind.

Ah, I thought they were TV programmes. YouTube isn't really my thing, always get impatient with it and end up doing something instead. Don't think it helps that I get sent some many links to supposedly hilarious clips which never are. Not watched gardening stuff but gave it a go for for craft tips and found it far more miss that hit and was easier to just give it a go myself. Now I think about it I prefer written advice, find all the online video news clips annoying too as you need sound or earphones.

I haven't got a computer anymore, I use the app with my phone or ipad and the app doesn't show your signature! Didn't realise Darcy had some videos going, will have to catch up later!!!"

I have found them to be entirely absorbing providing you avoid all the American ones which seem to annoy me beyond words. These are real gardeners not particularly trying to teach you but just showing you their progress over the weeks. The initial adverts are annoying but you can usually skip them and unlike TV there are no adverts in the middle. If you subscribe you can offer or get advice.
But if Rickvanman says "Greetings and salutations hope you're all having a great day" one more time I will explode.

In general I tend to avoid you-tube, Facebook and all that, but I am hooked on a few allotment video bloggers. Some of them post more than just veg growing, so then I get tempted to watching those too. Last year Rickvanman posted a video of a half hour drive around the country lanes of Gloustershire - I loved that one (never been to that area, but it looked absolutely gorgeous). Dan also posts some really cool wildlife videos, like the murmurating starlings. I'm really impressed by anyone who has the creativity and talent to make these blogs - I wouldn't have a clue.

Is there a programme I'm missing or where are all these interesting gardeners with lovely accents?
