Went to my local country park at the weekend, and as the car park was a bit full the only place to park was near the start of the footpath, where there is a dog waste bag dispenser like these, set on a post about 4 feet high
I'd noticed last time I went that there were no bags inside it, (not that I have a dog to be using them). Now I know why. As I sat in the car a bluetit whizzed by, and straight into the box with a caterpillar. I couldn't believe my eyes, but as I sat and watched a bit longer, a pair of birds whizzed in and out every minute or so.
This is a dispenser with a hole opening of about one and a half inches wide by five inches high. The box base is about level with the bottom of the opening, so I could see the adults inside, from my car. People and dogs were continually walking within two feet of the box.
I so wish I'd had my camera with me. If they are still there next time I go I will definitely be taking pics.
