It does amuse me how almost all forums DO suffer from this kind of thing, and the worst one I am a member of is a computer programming forum. I've lost count of the number of people on that who have ended up abusing each other and leaving in a huff! .
One of the worst ones I know of is a cycling forum that my husband belongs too. There's a poster on there that is very argumentative (I find him hilarious!) and he annoys everyone. They ban him and he appears again as someone else. Very amusing.

Perhaps computer geeks are a special breed, but most gardeners are lovely people so it's worrying to hear it also happens here now and again.
Now a computer programming forum has to be one of the worst "discussion" things I can think of. Worked in development for the last 35 years and I have several times walked out of code reviews when it got down to "I would have done it like this!"
Did no-one write a virus to bring down the site? If they didn't then they were not real programmers, probably wrote comments and ate quiche.

How did you guess? That was one of the things that went on with the ones who had been 'expelled'. The site was off line for this reason on several occasions and a lot of the data and previous posts got lost, including a lot of useful code!
At least the gardening advice here should be safer, and the only kinds of virus we need to be worried about is the mosaic type on beans and the other nasties which afflict our strawberries and things!
For what it's worth, all the aggro should be left on Faceache & let the vine do what it does best.
Never felt the urge to join the off shoot group - is it really bad on there or something?
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Alison- the FB group was set up a long while ago when we knew the Vine was going down for several days during an upgrade... so that grapes still had a chance to natter ( bit like an extended chat thread) between themselves.
I'm not a member so I can't really comment on it.

Thanks, doesn't sound like one for me, only really use Facebook to keep in touch with people I know in reality (as oppose to virtually) and don't do much on chat threads on here, just thought an earlier post indicated it got very argumentative on there and wondered why, but probably misunderstood

I think that of course you will always meet people who aren't always particularly nice in life,in reality and non reality. Gardeners are by nature a generous lot and we are always learning. That's where this forum can very positive
