  • Final of The Big Allotment Challenge

Who has been watching this? I have quite enjoyed watching it. Hope they do another one next year.

Who do you think is going to win the whole series? I think it is going to be Kate and Eleanor, they seem to be doing well through out.

Yeh I started watching it a few weeks ago. Don't enjoy the cooking part so much, got masterchef for that which also finished this week.

But the growing / floral display parts are quite good.

And the two epic beards on display which seem to grow with the crops

I am not sure. But this is the last one.

Started badly and didn't get any better. The growing bit had so much potential but missed out on so much and so many unanswered questions like where did the mature fruit come from when they had an empty patch?, who tended the lotties when the plot holders were back home during the week?, what on earth has those ridiculous flower arrangements got to do with allotments?, who employed Fern Brittan for this gig? and so many other other...... Such a shame and a programme with less connection to my allotment experience would be hard to find

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

'Pop' gardening for the masses. A to Z, largely neglecting B to Y....

But if it brings more people into GYO/gardening ... As undoubtedly it will.

In the absence of Athletico Madrid, if you're bored witless there's always Kylie Minogue in concert on the Red Button...

For me it was a bit engineered, although some like growing for the show bench, I grow for taste.

I might be wrong but I seem to recall them saying that was all supposed have grown in 15 weeks?

It's ok I had some science planning to do. Who did win?

Ah! Quick search reveals all but I won't just incase anyone actually is going to watch it.

I know it was all a bit lightweight but I did get hooked, and pleased there'll be another series next year. The choice of some of the show veg was a bit specialist though - melons and aubergines? I'd have been more interested in spuds and brassicas.
At the start of the series I thought the floral arrangements were hideous, but funny enough that was my favourite part of the show by the end.

I don't think it will have any real beneficial effect as there was no indication of what it actually takes to grow stuff, the plots were perfectly clear, we never saw a weed and pests were only mentioned on the odd occasion. It was all perceived beauty over substance and a reinforcement that a perfect shape and uniformity were what you should be wanting. It might encourage people to have a go but the lack of realism doesn't help, if all I'd ever seen was the glossy sheen of programmes like this and supermarket veg I'd probably have been quite demoralised during my first few years of growing and given up.

Shan't miss it now it's finished. Now off to watch Beechgrove which I've recorded. I do miss that when it's off air.
