I've not seen an episode yet, so I can't really comment on it. I did read this about it though. It wasn't exactly gushing.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

I got hooked too, mainly for the growing bit. It was lightweight, but I did like the winning chaps and the two ladies who nearly did it. I would love to see their "proper" allotments, bet they're great.

Am guessing that a programme focusing on different crops on their real plots each week would have been infinitely better and worth watching. Shame it doesn't seem like they'll ever make that programme and would rather manufacture artificial competition.

It's on on Sunday morning on BBC2 after the repeat of Gardeners World or that's when I catch it but think that may be a repeat. Or try iPlayer

These programs rely on artificial cliff hangers, you have so many minutes to complete this task etc, Time team is the worst offender, " We have one day left to find the roman kazi, it seems impossible" But they always do. Scrap heap challenge was the same, one team seems like they wont get their project finished, but they always do. What kind of idiots do they take us for.

i think they missed a big chance to show what the best method was for each produce. You have the same set of seeds each, the same plot so its not a bad control. Though how many people grow for show rather than taste...

I would like to add to the voices saying Beechgrove is the best. Watching it this year for the first time and loving it.

I stuck up for the first programme of Allotment Challenge, but even I'd lost interest after 3 weeks of the same format

Overall I quite liked the series, but I could have done with a bit less flowers and a bit more on the actual growing.

If they could have concentrated on one or two crops per episode and followed each plot through the various methods they used to sow, propogate, protect and nurture their own chosen varieties through to the show bench then I would have been much happier.

Having said that, as the number of contestants dropped then we did get quite a bit more of this.

At the end of the day, it was a gardening program, albeit a very artificial, manufactured one, so I suppose we should be thankful for that at least.

Perhaps the format will evolve over time - it appears to have been quite popular as they are already in the process of making a second series - which I have no doubt that I will watch as well.

I was very disappointed with the lack of proper 'growing' of veg on the first show . After I got over that I quite enjoyed it in a light sort of way. At least I know what a fruit butter is now, for what it's worth! Also will make more effort to pick flowers regularly from the garden. Glad the 2 guys won.

Overall I think there were a few growing hints there but not much! I enjoyed it and felt I picked up a few hints if I am ever forced to flower arrange. The recipes were interesting, as much in that many of them didn't work.

I think one of the things that annoyed me the most was the misinformation or only half the story. At one point they told us that insects couldn't get into greenhouses so you had to pollinate yourself. Rubbish, you can help stuff along if you want but to say that nothing gets in is ridiculous. Also some of their comments about pests were blatantly wrong and bad advice. Not much about watering and feeding either.
