    • .......I remember Bobby Charlton's Mum had the first telly in our home town, bought for her by her boys. The day they installed it us kids nipped in and hid under the table cloth to see until we were found and chased out.
And you know you're old when you remember a water-filled glass screen on the front of the telly to make the picture bigger.
It only worked if you sat dead in front, so much jostling and shoving!

      • Do you remember these???

no idea why it doesn't happen any more???..think they added something to the milk?
I remember the blue tits used to peck their way through the metal top to get to the cream too!

Remember school milk? It was either frozen, like that ^^^, or going off in summer. If you were really good, you'd be made Milk monitor and have to dole out the bottles and collect the empties.
It put me off milk for life - still can't drink it

                    • I loved school milk, frozen or a bit off and warm. Punching a hole in the silver top with your straw, then seeing who could drink it the fastest, and sometimes there were a few extra bottles to share after you finished your own, or you could swap your empty when the teacher wasn't looking for the full bottle of someone who hated milk.

According to our milkman it's because they homogenise the milk these days so it doesn't settle out with cream at the top. We buy non homogenised stuff for making cheese (you won't find that in the supermarkets) but have never ordered it when it's been cold enough to freeze so haven't put it to the test.

We gave glass bottles delivered at home and at work and I know there are at least two milkies who deliver near our home, it's wonderfully convenient, less waste, less to store, much more environmentally friendly and although more per pint, we waste less drug to guessing requirements on a weekly basis so it actually costs us less (this surprised me too). No idea why they changed the shapes of the bottles though from the tall ones of my childhood to the shorter, more stubby ones we get now.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                          • I remember putting the milk bottles in a bowl of water with a tea towel over them to keep them cool in summer, before we had a fridge.

                            • We had a buried bucket by the front door. Used to love helping the milkman for a few bob a week. Especially around November to buy penny rockets.

We also had a sweet shop that only sold sherbert. Everyone ended up with pink and yellow fingers
