1980's 'mobile' phones weighing more than 2lbs!!!

I remember my OH's firm getting their first one...costing over £2,000 and only working for about 30 mins!!!

( thought I'd throw in one the younger grapes might remember!!! )

Connecting phone calls through an operator!

The conversation went like this

"Morning Kitty I need the doc real quick, gramps is poorly"
"Oh what's up with him"
"He's just come in from milking and can't stand up"
"Sounds bad Bill, did you know Mrs keeling is pregnant again?"
"No!!! that's six isn't it?
" Seven actually the last ones were twins"
"Bill did you know Cyril Lane has got all his hay in already"
"Wow he's a new man after that land girl moved in, now about the Doc?"
"Oh he's gone fishing on Jim Beckett's farm Bill, I can call Jim and tell him to give the Doc a shout"
"Actually Kitty you best ring Sid the cabinet maker and undertaker, Gramps has just snuffed it"
"Ah well Sid's gone fishing too"

Wasn't God Save The Queen played at the evening close down of the TV programmes?...and also after a film at the cinema??
( I only have vague recollections of this as my memories didn't even exist about some of the things peeps are saying on here!!!!)

Yup my granddad used to stand up for "The Queen" in our lounge!!!

Actually we can now, you just ring reception and they book you in for a call back, usually within an hour.
