I remember as a lad going to the barbers and the barber lit a piece of newspaper and set fire to this blokes hair!!!! it was called a singe and stunk the place out. Maybe they still do it but I haven't seen it since then.

Gingham dresses made by mum, and getting a new pair of Clark's red sandals at the beginning of summer.

Never had the Gingham dress but always sandals right up to secondary school.

One thing I do remember was taken my dinner money in a purse though

When your kids come home from school and ask if you played with a hoop and a stick???!!! NO! I had a Sindy and a Barbie and clackers a skipping rope and rollerboots! How old do they actually think I am??? They also asked what colour grass was in the black and white days!

Remember my sister having rags put in her hair for ringlets. My parents never had a lot of money but our sheets were always laundered

I used to have rags for ringlets too - much against my wishes!! It was impossible to sleep with all those hard "sausages" on the back of your neck. Cruelty to children!!

Does anyone remember bumpers? they were the forerunner of trainers I suppose. When I got my first pair I felt I could run up vertical brick walls. The were black with white bits and a round badge just by your ankle.
