  • Bird box on Utility Pole... Permitted?

    Hi,

I have a pretty unsightly electricity pole bang in the middle of the kitchen window. It's a wooden telegraph pole stylee type thing.

Is it ok for me to bang a nail in and hang a bird box from it. This feels like it might be a stupid question, but there are pretty obvious and simple ways to avoid being killed horribly...

The only decent arguement i can think of is that the power board would say it's their property and I couldn't do it.

Or is it a 'forgiveness is easier than permission' situation?

    Any thoughts?

I should imagine it would be frowned on

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

      Hello and welcome, Thomps.
Would any self-respecting bird want to live on a utility pole?
What about a fast growing climber - Russian Vine or honeysuckle at the foot of the pole? or is it set in concrete?

Sweet peas - nope, too short!!
Grow something outside your kitchen window to look at, instead of looking at the pole

Hi, there is a few feet between window and pole, but it's just outside the 'border' of the yard to the pavement. So I could grow something, it would have to be in a pot, from my property onto the pole no problems.

All depends on who's utility pole it is. If its power distribution they will just cut down anything you grow up it and maybe send you the bill for doing so.

if its telephone I am not so sure they would worry to much unless the plant to be grew up into the wires and then you may just end up with another bill to pay.

That's pretty much one of the best things I've ever seen and will be getting one as soon as I'm paid.

I know of a couple of cases over here where people have tried to hide the huge EDF concrete electricity posts with plants...or even painted them ...which are actually positioned on their property and been told to remove the plants or had their wrists slapped big time for interfering with their property.

Just mentioning this, cos I think it may be frowned on.
