Gardening " Bucket List "

Does anyone have a gardening bucket list?

just one of those crazy things I thought of whilst commuting today. Mine includes:

1 Actually managing to grow a decent cauliflower
2 Mastering the so called simple to grow radish
3 Getting rid of bindweed
4 Getting Mrs GL to appreciate gardening
5 Getting my compost heap to warm up
6 Having the time to get everything done on the plot
7 Tempting my 2 year old granddaughter to eat vegetables

etc etc

1, 2 and 5 are defo feasible, 3 and 6 will never happen and the other two will depend on your family . Me I don't really set targets so don't get disappointed

I thought I had achieved no 1 when a cauliflower started to appear a month ago, it then exploded into separate flowers like broccoli.

I have managed no 3 I think, last tiny bit of bindweed went last year. Had to use roundup on it though.

My wife loves gardening as long as I do it.

no 5 the compost never really happens for me.

As for 6, time become irrelevant when you are retired, I just resent having to go to bed.

7. My granddaughter hasn't reached that stage yet. so that's a joy to come.

I have an eighth, and that is getting rid of slugs, now that one will never happen.

Oh and 9 getting rid of blanket weed in my pond, I scoop out tons of it every week.

Nah, I just do whatever crazy thing is uppermost in my mind at the time ...... then undo it and redo it differently a couple of days/weeks/months* later

I've just started ny first Cauliflower, fingers crossed!

I've never had weed problems where I'm growing, helps that it's all raised beds and just out back so nothing has much chance / time to take hold.

My compost was hearing up nicely but it's 35% Ant so I didn't get too close to it!

Little Miss Gardener takes a mini cucumber to school every morning and basically loves veg!

I am with you on the radishes. Just cannot grow the darn 'easy to grow' things. Mind you, I don't really like them much. Perhaps they sense that!

Have realised after a few years of trying that Mr Noosner will probably not come round to gardening, at least not on my time.

Did once grow a perfect cauli, by accident. I am sure if I tried to do it on purpose nothing would happen.

Like AllinContainers, I survive gardening wise by following my crazy enthusiasms!

Here's my Bucket list but I know I've forgotten lots.............

1. Grow leeks to pencil thickness before planting out
2. Grow brussels sprouts that look like buttons
3.......................... I've forgotten the rest already.

2 Mastering the so called simple to grow radish

At the weekend I sowed some more radish in a big pot of MPC. I'm determined to grow at least one decent radish this year!

My first radishes are always brill, then a bit rubbish after that! They don't seem to like the heat, will not be planting any more until September.

My radishes are just start to fill out a little. Not be much longer before harvesting, then I'll also be waiting for temps to ease off before sowing again. I don't sow many anyway, maybe 15 or so at a time

Bill - I used to have blanketweed - got some Mudballs from a well known firm "HH" I drop 1 in every 6 months or so and heypresto it has gone. Now the duckweed is the problem!!

If I had a bucket list I am afraid I would have to live forever to complete it (and sneakily would never quite manage to sort that last little thing).

I let some of mine go to seeds then they produce pods that i think taste better than the radish themselves.

Ha ha, this is funny about the radishes! Mine last year were so thin and curved, they looked like pink question marks. Are we all agreed then that they aren't 'easy' at all, but 'bladdy difficult'?
