Amazing how much we have to be positive about, sometimes we fail to celebrate our successes because we become blinded by our failures.

I'm thrilled/relieved/amazed that we're growing anything at all this year...thought having a new baby in February would make it tricky, but we're doing okay. Sweetcorn a bit late going out, carrots, parsnips and broad beans a bit late, and the weeds are winning around the garlic and the onions, but still all better than we thought!

Lots of globe artichokes, they're growing faster than we can eat them. Tried them last night sauteed in butter and olive oil, then tossed with parmesan, lemon juice and pappardelle - lovely.

Lettuce has been fab this year. Usually I don't sow enough, or I do it direct and the slugs eat them as they emerge.

This year I've been sowing 40+ at a time, in modules, and planting out when about 3" high, and they've nearly all done brilliantly.

Thing is, I'm having to eat a lettuce every day now to keep up with them

After the disaster with my brassicas a few weeks back, their replacements seem to have caught up with everyone elses.

Sweetcorn standing tall as well.....even got another row of carrots showing.

I'm happy I remembered to pick elderflowers this year in time to make elderflower 'champagne' while they're at their best. They're soaking as I write and - lads, the fragrance!
