  • Hosepipe manners

I hate it when I have to spend time untangling the hosepipe because folk have wound it (and me!) up any old way!
I like to double up the length then wind, no great possibility of entanglement, easily sorted. Wish other folk would take the hint!

    Ha!...know the feeling!

I trust you are talking about on the allotment site?

Best way I reckon is to take your own if you can

Smug Smiley I had a hozelock for my birthday a couple of years ago Sorry Raybon It used to wind me up when the family thought they were doing me a favour watering the garden for me and they always left the hose tangled.

A hosepipe - what luxury!! We weren't allowed hosepipes and had to fill watering cans from a communal trough and carry them to the plot. Really concentrated the mind on essential watering

We don't have any communal watering facilities (apart from rain ) but as I've never had it I don't miss it. Simply collect water from the shed and tunnel roofs and use that for the tunnel and newly planted stuff. All else does fine without so long as it's well mulched.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I treated myself to a hosepipe on wheels, so useful, the one I had before was so long it filled the shed and I cud never untangle it.

No communal watering facilities here either. Watering cans from shed filled butts all the way. A hose pipe? Agree with VC - sheer luxury. At least once you've got it out you can just turn on and water instead of repeated trips to and from the butts. I try to keep watering to a minimum but the poly and GH really need it in this recent sun we've been having and the squash/courgies will need it too soon.

we have a chap who waters his own, and his friends', plots from his house ~ no, he's not on a meter, and sometimes he can't be bothered to turn off the hose so leaves it running all night. Shocking, really. He's stealing not from the water company, but from everyone else whose bills increase to make up the loss

Today I'll be watering the plot as we've not had rain for nearly 4 weeks, and none in the foreseeable either. It takes me 4 hrs*, and that's sparingly watered. A hosepipe would take 20 mins, ho hum.

                            * because I notice things to weed, and peas to snack on, while I'm doing it
