  • Hazel: Hello, Mr o2 in the o2 shop - I am a contract customer, so I have come to ask your advice. I would like to buy a dongle preloaded with enough money to keep in touch on the internet on my notepad whilst I am on holiday. How much would this be?
Mr o2: *plenty waffle* we can't do that, suggest you find a wifi hotspot
Hazel: But I want to use the internet in the apartment which does not have wifi. My accountant has a pre-pay dongle which he uses, how much would it cost to do this?
    Mr o2: *plenty waffle*
Hazel: oh, so you can't do that?
    Mr o2: no.

Hazel: Hello, Mr EE in the EE shop - I have come to ask your advice. I would like to buy a dongle preloaded with enough money to keep in touch on the internet on my notepad whilst I am on holiday. How much would this be?
Mr EE: suggest you find a wifi hotspot as to use roaming dongle will be VERY EXPENSIVE
Hazel: That's ok , how much would it cost to do this?
Mr EE: *plenty waffle* .... so abroad, that's 79p per kb.
Hazel: so that's about £8 per meg. Gosh - that is VERY EXPENSIVE.
Mr EE: well you could tether your mobile to your notepad *technical waffle* suggest you go and talk to o2

    *sigh

    • Hazel - you could set your o2 phone as a wi-fi hotspot (aka Tethering) and let your notebook connect to it. That way your phone is acting like the dongle your colleague has, albeit connected wirelessly. Be careful though, things like a Windows notebook can unexpectedly consume tons of data - when automatically updating your anti-virus software for example. And if there are any Windows updates while you're away they could eat a few hundred Mb in one go. The trick is to switch updates off temporarily.

The charges from o2's web site It ain't cheap...:

"If you're travelling in Europe on our standard rates we'll cap your internet use at £48 (inc VAT)/250MB. If you're traveling outside of Europe, we'll cap your usage at £40 (ex VAT)/50MB. Terms apply
You can raise this cap to £120/630MB in Europe or 200MB outside of Europe by contacting us. You can relax knowing you'll never pay over a specified amount. Terms apply"

              • Dogs. Been bitten by the new bouncy hound belonging to our neighbour. I know he won't have been vaccinated against rabies and as he drew blood I should probably go to the Doc.

                        • Nasty mean spirited old woman who enjoys upsetting her "friends".

All the time the old lady was in hospital Mrs Doom and Gloom was pointing out how bad things would be when she got home and all the things she wouldn't be able to do.

Why do this? Why not encourage and help and point out all the pluses of going home?

Now she is home she keeps telling her to take it easy in direct contrast to the hospital staff who have told her to do as much as she can for the best recovery. Why? Doesn't she want her to get out and about again?

I am doing what I consider needs doing (shopping etc) while encouraging her to be as independent as possible and do as much as she can herself, while calling round for half an hour at least daily just for a chat and to take her homegrown strawberries and tomatoes etc. If I call and any other of her many friends are there (frequently), there is always a good atmosphere and laughter but if I call and Mrs Doom and Gloom is there I can feel the atmosphere as I go in (it might be something to do with her whiney voice and moaning).

Why are some people just so negative and miserable? Why not enjoy life while you can and try to spread a bit of happiness?

                          • Rotten stinking liars of ex-boyfriends who are still pretending, 40 years later, that there is still a connection on learning I am a widow - but through the powers of fb I can flush him out. Glad I married a lovely honest man, even though his life was limited by cancer - he is still a guiding light of honesty and integrity 7 years on, bless him.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?
