There is a school of thought that says if instead of KEEP OUT notices and fences, you include all members of the community (schools, youth clubs etc) in the allotments, there is less chance of damage because if the community has a vested interest in the allotments, there's less likely to be trouble *from* the community - it is self policing.

Takes quite some belief to work this through in other than the movies, mind.

Really sorry to hear about this Greenleaves, what a totally horrible thing to do. Was there any damage to the perimeter fence or signs of where they got access? If there's any chance it was an ex plot holder with a key, I guess adding a new padlock is a good idea. Though from your description of the damage it sounds like a gang of people rather than just one.

That is awful Greenleaves and I'm sorry to hear it has happened. I hope some of the damage can be rectified. There are some mindless morons in this world who are jealous of other people and their skill. Carry on growing

I'm so sorry to read this thread, Greenleaves. It's heartbreaking to have so much effort and property destroyed overnight. One can only hope that individually the little oicks that did the damage feel totally ashamed of themselves as they pass by and see everyone pulling together to repair the damage.

These type of people are a bit like dogs - individually on their own they are pleasant and well-behaved, but two or more become a pack and dare each other on to ever increasing destruction.

Hope the lottie holders are not too discouraged by it all. Giving up their lottie would be letting the vandals win.

Sorry to hear that news GL..mindless idiots....
Given the scale of damage you mention, I would more likely think it is vandals....as someone else said, brave in a group, but not so much if you got them on their own...

Awful, I am not involved and yet my blood is boiling too. Maybe a few dummy cameras on poles might help.

So sorry to read this Greenleaves (I always seem to read that as 'Green Sleeves' for some reason and I thought you were female too, lol. I think it's the user name that led me to that belief rather than post content btw.

The problem is, the type of mindless thug that does this kind of thing is never usually the brightest button in the box and can't really be reasoned with. It's all brawn and little brain.

I wish there was some sort of magic answer to stop this.

Contact your local Crime Prevention officer to see if there are any grants available to buy CCTV equipment. CCTV is aimed at crime prevention after all . . . I think it's partly how our association got the funds for our CCTV system.

Sorry to hear this. It is so saddening when things like this happen.
One good thing that comes of it, is that people will band together to become stronger as a community.
I hope that it helps you all to support each other, and I seriously hope that the vandals don't come back again.
