  • My poor son...

Has really struggled to get a job since leaving education, it's soul destroying to be constantly rejected when you so want to work.

Well today he finally got a job 🎉

I can't tell you how chuffed he is to be able to pay his way and get his self respect back. Well done Tom, you've made your old mum proud.

I'm so happy for you, I know how hard it is for the younger generation nowadays.

Always tricky with trying to get a job with a bigger company because their first sweep of applicants will invariably include academic achievements - they have to start somewhere, I guess, (depending on the job - an accountant needs to know tax law and stuff) but there are far more important indicators as to what makes a potentially good employee.

Companies like Timpson are to be applauded - they take far more stock of personality and drive than they do pieces of paper.

I was at an industry do last week, and all the companies there (bar us, I guess) have a policy of graduate intake only. Short sighted, really.

I've worked with people who have paper qualifications and no common sense. I've also worked with what we used to call 'Dilutees' who have done a short tradesmans course at College and were far superior to time served guys who had done a four or five year appenticeship. I'm not saying that this is always the case in either instance but it needs to be considered by employers.

Well done Tom and I'm pleased for Bex also!

I won't lie it's been a struggle, 3 of us surviving on my wage. Might be able to afford to do some living now, not just surviving.

                    Well done Tom and Bex.

I know how tough it is ... it took my boy over 2 years to get a job but he finally managed it this spring. It makes a huge difference to their self confidence, which is great for life as well as work.

Hope he enjoys his new life!
