My dad has done our family tree. My moms side are needle makers and envelope makers for the needles to go in. Did that for generations.
My dads lot are mill workers and farmers. My great granddad, I think that's what he works out at, was one of the last Shire horse breeders in West Yorkshire. Have a picture of my dad sat on one of them as a small lad. He says he remembers them being taken away by various lorries as my great granddad couldn't afford to keep them as no one wanted them anymore only tractors. Very sad really as he said his granddad burst into tears as the last one left.
But hasn't found any criminals but has found a couple how shall we put it 'ladies of the night'

Think there are a 'I see it I want it now' and can't wait for anything people everywhere now. They are the ones who chop you up either in the supermarket or on the roads.
My dad had little patience until he had a heart attack then that made him slow down appreciate what is out there.

He is a cracking little fellow. People think he is stupid but they do that at their peril. He is sharp as a knife and doesn't miss a trick.

I have always loved gardening, I have very fond memories of helping my grandfather in the garden. My job was to pick the stones out of the beds, when I asked him why we had to do that he said the stones hurt the roots of the plants. I still can't garden without picking out the stones as I go.
Also I have had OH's nephew staying with us for the last few months, I didn't know he wasn't in to veg ( to eat) so have cooked as normal, he being a very polite young man just ate what was put in front of him and has discovered loads of veg that he had never tried before and certainly wouldn't if his mother gave it to him. He always asks about the plants in the garden now, and has tasted raw peas out of the pod beetroot, fennel, and celeriac , and actually likes them all.
He actually wants a house with a garden so ha can grow things now. How good is that

Ha ha, me too - peasants of the world unite !!

Seriously though, although my dad worked for British Rail he always grew his own, as did his dad, and his step-dad before him...and on the other side, my mum's grandfather was quite a well-to-do market gardener.

              It's in your genes!!!

At my age I meet just about no one who grows veg so I don't tend to bother to bring it up in conversation. It's nice to be polite and listen when people tell you about their hobbies but I agree it's also quite hard to have a lengthy in depth conversation about something you have no interest in at all. Some people don't care about sport, some people would rather watch paint dry than sew and some people don't understand why others grow their own food. I like having a hobby that a lot of other people don't have an interest in as I prefer to be in the minority, imagine if everyone did all the same things?
Remember it's just a bad day, not a bad life 😁

By the time I've finished bending their ears, they'll admit to enjoying anything.
All of my friends have simple tastes - none of us lead extravagant lifestyles. Growing veg, watching the sun set, walking on the beach, listening to the birds, stargazing, having a laugh, simple pleasures - that's all I need.
