OT but do you find pickled cucumbers last more than a week before turning to mush? Mine never do!

Have you got a recipe that "guarenttees" they are edible at Christmas?

Roitelet give me a couple of jars of cucumber relish last year which kept really well for a few months without going mushy...hopefully she'll post it here if she reads this?
The second jar only lasted about another week- cos we couldn't resist eating it!!!

So bored.
I did the washing and cleaned the house yesterday and pickled everything id picked.
Just been in garden but it started to rain again, also wind has really got up.
The batteries on the Xbox controllers are flat, and I refuse to watch tv in the afternoon in August.
I do like NVs idea of ordering more seeds, I may give that ago.

Thanks Nicos. It is a recipe for pickled, quartered cucumbers I'm after.

Some (purely) french speaking friends have a cellar full of jars of them that last for months and even though I've tried to follow their recipe (as my limited french allows) after a very short time the vinegar is cloudy and the fruit is soggy.

Having said that, I was given the recipe, in quickly spoken french, after sampling the cucumbers along with a generous half dozen glasses of french hospitality so I probably forgot something important!

Watching British Superbikes alternating between TV and laptop (when satellite signal ruined by weather). All the usual Sunday chores (recycling, bins, etc.) done. As a newish retiree I don't ever feel I have wasted a day regardless of how much or little I do, just revel in the fact I haven't had to be at work!

After watching it persisting down for several hours, its now glorious sunshine. Must be the eye of the storm.
Just went on slug patrol with my specially sharpened hoe and, sad I am as found none.
Talked to my tomatoes and told em not to worry.
Back in the house being talked to by our lass.

... torrential rain outside, in flew a buff-tail bumble, obviously looking for a dry spot, and immediately took refuge under a big leaf on a potted orchid...
I'll get a photo-fit when it emerges again.

She came out after about half an hour, so I gave her some sugar syrup soaked in a bit of kitchen roll. She perked up after a couple of minutes and as the rain had all but stopped, I opened the door and off she flew.

I cooked a huge batch of pasta sauce, all now in the freezer, and sliced and I've frozen a batch of purple beans.

We've just had that, a whole hour without rain but its back again and bought the wind with it. but I did manage to get the veg harvested we wanted for tea.
