  • Gardening clothes..what are they?

I do have clothes that i keep just for the garden. BUT......

More often that not, i go out to the garden with a coffee, see something small that needs to be done and do it...pick something trim something, deadhead etc and so on...

....then before i know it, i have spent several hours out there wiping my dirty muddy hands on my clothes kneeling on the ground weeding, thoroughly getting stuck in, then realise, i am wearing my good clothes/shoes which by this stage are now filthy

Anyone else do this, or just me?

Oh I do that all the time. Sometimes, when coming home from work, I don't even make it to the house. I will see something that I absolutely MUST do right that very minute and before I know it half an hour has passed and the dogs are looking out the window at me.

*Edit: I should point out that my work uniform is t-shirt and jeans.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

I can really identify with this! I used to keep old clothes for the plot when I was working - now it all gets used! Plus which I have a dog who is keen on jumping up and seizing the hem of my top or my trousers in her teeth so I have quite a few bits which are mended The worst is my shoes which get really scuffed when I kneel down and do bits - must remember to put the wellies on! And then there are the nails which are non-existent now...
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I no longer have "best" clothes - only gardening clothes
Fortunately, nobody invites me to any smart clothes events any more - Fancy dress as a scarecrow maybe

I put down granite slabs to create paths between beds which I do not walk on. That way my shoes stay clean. I wash my hands using the water from butts, to reduce muck spread. My beds are no dig, except to remove bindweed roots, so I spread compost, mostly home cooked, on the soil. Generally gardening is not a mucky business. I do change clothes when working on old furniture in the garage.

I was the very same for years until the other week when I had to buy some outfits for holiday.

Not just me then. I dont go anywhere fancy either. I have had some strange looks when picking the children up from school though. gardening gloves, i have them, several pairs, but by the time i have remembered (which isnt often) its already too late.

Butternutsquash, i am in awe, i only have to look at the garden and i can feel the mud sticking.

Whatever I put on in the morning are gardening clothes as that's where I spend most of my time.

I garden in what ever clothes I'm wearing at the time and so long as I check my knees before going out of the front door it works out fine.

When I remember, I slip a pair of knee pads on over my jeans.
