Started August on a positive note and ending it the same.

Good Morning Everyone

Only seems like yesterday I posted about starting August on a positive note. Well its been an excellent month al round for the the Greenleaves clan.

plotis looking good and thus far everything seems to be behaving as it should, my leeks are doing fantastically well and the winter brassica's are looking nice and strong. Spent a fantastic week with my Grand Kids and manage to catch up with Beechgrove. Runner Beans have been phenomenal this year.

I know the weather's been a bit up and down but at least we are suffering the lack of rain of last August.

Another positive thing is I can have meals devoid of courgettes!

So keeping the positive feeling going how as your month been ( positive please) ?

I think this years been my best ever with bumper crops of just about everything

I think I've had more failures than successes but those that did crop have been exceptional
My first ever courgette glut given away as many as we've eaten

My toms are disappointing this year, but a fantastic crop of cucumbers, pepper bushes are heaving and my best ever year with carrots and french beans.
We still have to keep finding new ways to make courgettes interesting at the moment, but at least the whole family seem to like these round italian ones that I've grown this year.

The month has certainly flown by. I just made a smoothie for brekkie containing, amongst other things, kale, spinach, cucumber, beetroot and parsley from the garden. It tasted lovely -honest!- but the loveliest thing is to be able to pick things from the garden and eat them straight away. So, I'm well-chuffed with my hoard. Some things didn't grow too well...or, in some cases, at all but oh well. My courgettes have come to a standstill but I'm quite thankful for that.. I'm just about to pop out to sow some more spinach and I sowed broccoli raab this morning... it'll be interesting to see how that grows...

No failures for us this year, good crops all round. Only our second year growing and things are starting to expand on the gardening front. My favourite crop has been sweetcorn

Found everything good this year, been a bit of a learning year, seeing what's good and whats not at growing here.
Tomatoes good, tons of gerkins and autumn raspberries by far the most amazing thing I have grown.
Next year must sow my seeds earlier and get a small greenhouse. 😀

Everything good.lots of good courgette recipes,just google. Runners still going strong but toms are not ripening quickly.My neighbour says use banana skins so have just bought a large bunch and will be making banana bread,banana muffins banana custard,fried bananas .Just to get my toms ripe.

Even though I got blight I still managed a bumper crop of toms. Yes they were green but still useful. I made chutney and my window ledges are crammed, they are ripening at a steady pace. My westie's nose has been pushed out of joint as he can no longer sit on the window sill lol

My golden acre cabbages have been amazing as was my Samson calabrese. Sweet corn is plumping nicely and I've a newly felted shed roof which means I can finally store things in the middle of my shed and not just round the edges. Life is good 😋

August has been a fantastic month.
Haven't bought any vegetables - everything from the garden. There are strings of onions and shallots and sacks of spuds squirrelled away for the coming months. Even better, the courgettes are still producing - I lurve them, especially dunked in batter and deepfried. Make that some onion rings on the side please,
Ended the month by adding 4 incredibly cheap GHs to my collection although these will be netted, not glazed and used as a brassica cage. The neighbours can't decided whether I have a market garden or a hippy camp.
Its a gloriously sunshiny day to bring August to a close - looking forward to whatever September may bring (especially if its more courgettes)

It's been a big learning curve for me on my new plot..........at least I know what & how to grow certain crops next year so should be more bountiful all being well.

August has been a funny month. Turned 39 so on the big count down to the big 40. I gave up my second plot bit of a downer admitting that I just couldn't do it all. But on the upside when I went down the other day I found that the plot had now got new people on it . In fact the plot has been split into two plots now.
Growing has been a bit rubbish. Have managed to get 2 jars of pickled onions though and a load more for cooking etc. Got a few runner beans to so not a total failure.
Think of August as a learning curve ready for next year and deciding what we are doing next year.
