  • Quitting the rat race

The time has come .... fed up with being tired all the time, fed up feeling I'm getting nowhere fast .... I'm quitting the rat race .... had the estate agent round this morning ....

I've been in this house for 21 years .... waiting for life to happen .... hoping life will happen sometime before death .... and now it's time .... time to change everything ....

In some ways it's sort of scarey .... no real plans for the future yet .... but a relief to know things are going to change .... freedom ....

The worst thing is giving up the fruit and veg patch and greenhouse .... I want to take it all with me .... want to dig up the gooseberries and everything else .... but unlikely that I'll be able to take them with me ....

At least I have an allotment now .... I can keep that going until I decide on long term plans ....

I approve, Farmer G. Take life by the horns and give it a good old shake, while you're young enough to do so.
There'll be another fruit and veg patch, somewhere, with your name on it. Hope you find it soon

Well done FG. Sometimes that first step is the hardest but now you are on your way to a life you really want. Good luck.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Very best of luck with the best decision you will ever make. There will be tough choices and things you will have to leave behind but taking control is the best way to live if you have the chance.
            Good luck and stay strong.

Good for you. It will be scarey and exciting for you. I felt the same 5 year ago, when I told the rat race to stick it! . Best thing me & the other half ever did. It's not all been plain sailing. quality of life is so much better, time is your own not some other ******s
It's all good. So you go for it and enjoy every minute

Good luck. You've started the ball rolling and made a start to your plans so things are moving for you.
That's the hardest thing taking the first step. So pleased for you.

I quit farming and agricultural engineering in 1996 at the age of 48. We bought a care home in Torquay. Quite a change but never regretted. I think its the change of people that you meet, we had 7 wonderful staff members all who became firm friends. I was never really in the rat race having been self employed all my life but my wife was killing herself as a community nurse. And don't forget, a change is as good as a rest.
