Don't spend your precious time asking "Why isn't the world a better place?" It will only be time wasted.
The question to ask is "How can I make it better?" To that there is an answer

KoA - I've praised you in the past for single-handedly keeping this thread on the go, and fair play to you its going to reach the 100 mark soon.
However, in our work we get sent a calendar from a supplier with these 'instantly forgettable' quotes.
Nobody I know takes stock of their life and makes consequential changes - it's as I said 'instantly forgettable'.
The world we live in is a fantastical wonderful place at times, it can also be a desolate and unforgiven hellhole with no hope og sanctuary from society or the state for some others.
These quotes are meaningless - not only for those in need, but for the movers and shakers that actually have an influence on our world.
I like this thread, but the 'good intentiions become meaningles with such bland nonsense' which end up perturbing me - but I'm an @rse though.
I'm not wanting to get at you, because (even though I don't know you) you come across as a really genuine person.
It's maybe just me.
.......because you're thinking of putting the kettle on and making a pot of tea perhaps, you old weirdo. (Veggie Chicken - 25/01/18)
We have one life, a limited time to grow into something beautiful, lovely, loving and compassionate, or we can grow into someone who is controlling, selfish and who cares only for themselves and their career.
All the latter is emptiness in the end, for what we take with us, the coin of the other world, is love
- Brother Mark Dohle
Pain is still pain, suffering is still suffering, regardless of whoever, or whatever, is the victim.
Everything is worthy of kindness.
In a lunch session in a slaughterhouse, a lamb jumped out of its pen and came unnoticed up to some slaughtermen who were sitting in a circle eating their sandwiches; the lamb approached and nibbled a small piece of lettuce that a man was holding in his hand. The men gave the lamb some more lettuce and when the lunch period was over they were so affected by the action of the lamb that not one of them was prepared to kill this creature, and it had to be sent elsewhere - showing that within each human soul there is an element of pity, compassion and love in varying degrees.
It is our duty to encourage the higher qualities in each individual to bloom and blossom wherever possible

Self-absorption in all its forms kills empathy, let alone compassion. When we focus on ourselves, our world contracts as our problems and preoccupations loom large.
But when we focus on others, our world expands. Our own problems drift to the periphery of the mind and so seem smaller, and we increase our capacity for connection - or compassionate action

Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us, on occasion, to greatness
