  • That time of year again and already thinking of next year.

I've made some moves in organising my garden.
There is still lots to do but one step at a time as they say.

I've managed to relocate my greenhouse but i'm missing one corner and full pane to properly seal it up.
This will be done within the next month or so as i know that there cooler weather is just around the corner.

One of the biggest jobs i've yet to do is to get my raised bed sorted out.
I have the sleepers for it (courtesy of my kids local school having a new building) but need a chainsaw in order to cut the things down to size in certain parts.
That then leaves me with getting some good compost to fill the thing up with.

The next thing, which i started off doing a couple of days ago, was to clean and sterilise my plant pots.
The great thing about doing this is that the food grade drum i acquired form a local business is that its big enough to hold nearly all the plant pots i have.
And as i haven't set it up to be used as a water but yet, i was able to sterilise both it and the pots in one go.
The only i have left to do in that area is to clean and sterilise my seed trays and propagators.

Overall, still a fair bit to do but getting there.

What plans have some of you made in order to get organised for next season?

So far I've filled 8 builders bags with well rotted stable hay for next years tatties. I've also made a Runner Bean tunnel consisting of 7 x 6ft high hoops at 2ft spacings. I've still got a greenhouse to put up which is to be covered with half polycarb & half netting. Just waiting for the courgettes to finish before I can do that though.

Well it's only my first year of allotmenting but have discovered several things that need changing. I've recently acquired a greenhouse so I'm looking forward to getting started with that next year. I want a proper compost heap building as apposed to compost bins. I need to put some sort if edging along the path too. In my small garden I want to get rid of my raised bed and dig up some turf to have a proper little kitchen garden plot but can't do that until my rhubarb us ready to move. Also need to move pear tree. Phew. But I haven't really done much if all that yet!!! Ha!

I have to say that it seems like you have a lot going on in that small raised bed area.
        It looks great.
        And that sunflower is huge.
What type of sunflower is that?

To be honest it's just Swiss chard and rhubarb left, the rhubarb was from seed and has done amazingly! I did have potatoes in there too! The soil seems great because the same rhubarb from seed on my allotment isn't even half the size! I'm not sure on the type of sunflower but it's 9ft 7inches and I've entered into the forums competition! Thanks for your comments x
