Whilst I am of the opinion that we are better together, I don't think NO being the winners of the referendum makes it "fact" as such, just that that is what the majority have chosen to do. The folk who voted YES won't have changed their minds since yesterday ... so their wishes need to be accommodated, to the best of the ability of the NO voters - particularly as the vote was close - to put it at an extreme, if only 1% had voted YES then they could have been ignored, but I don't think 45% should be, just because they "lost".
So true Kristen but to me 10% is still a big margin...Thats about 400,000 voters in my eyes voted NO..Considering they all thought it was going to be a lot closer

I seem to remember that was the case at the General Election too (pollsters not all that close)?

I think they say their margin of error is 3%, so the actual vote was probably on the limit of their accuracy ...

This is not the right Forum to be posting these videos, Dim. I have deleted your subsequent ones too and will continue to do so.
This was a well-mannered, discussion - and it will remain so - or be closed.

From the people I've talked to at work this is the right result. I don't know anyone who voted yes.

There are a great many forums that welcome political debate, this is NOT one of them, never has been never will be.

Indeed so. Although a significant number of the "no" voters have done so on the promises made during the campaign of substantial devolution of power to Scotland within the union.

Well that would delight my late father as it was one of his life long wishes!

However, Yorkshire was, of course previously part of the Kingdom of Northumbria so perhaps it should be Home Rule for Northumbria?

Except that before Northumbria took over Yorkshire was a Celtic region linked to Wales.

And of course, a large area of Doncaster was given to the Scottish King David by the English King Stephen and still belongs to Scotland. (I still think the Doncastrians should have been voting yesterday since it affects them as well as those north of the border!)

So is it Home Rule for Yorkshire, Northumbria or cede the area back to Wales?

History has so many twists and turns that there is never a simple answer!!!!!

Oh, and since the River Sheaf and Roman Ridge are the proper southern boundaries of Yorkshire then half of Sheffield would not be included and would have a "Checkpoint Charlie" for passport control at Meadowhall!!!!!

I was so impressed with the turn out of the electorate - that is what it should be all about. That and good, clear discussion of the issues so voting is well-informed. I am fed up with smoke and mirrors.
