How do you turn them off?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

For ages I thought you were a lady, Kristen. Then I discovered there was a Mrs Kristen. I suppose that still doesn't necessarily mean you are a fella but I'm plumping for that, anyway!

Also I thought BM that you were a lady. Well, to be more accurate at first I thought you were a chap, then on one post you referred to yourself as a b*tch and I thought oh crikey I've been getting this wrong, so you were a lady for about a fortnight until you said summat else that made me realise. Normal service is now resumed!

Not that I lack will-power, but personally I prefer to be prepared and armed with the facts when I approach a "project" as I figure that gives me a better chance of success.
A number of years ago, I decided that maybe my bottle of Vodka per night habit was not very healthy, so decided to stop for awhile. It was nowhere near as hard as I thought it would be - if it wasn't in the house I didn't miss it and not that keen on beer or cider, so apart from an odd glass of wine with meals, I've found I'm just not that bothered about alcohol - a cup of tea helps me unwind just fine.
As for socialising, I find the people that make a noise about me not drinking seem to be the ones who should have a closer look at their own drinking habits. I still enjoy social events without adding the drug of alcohol to my other vice of tobacco lol.

I agree Skeggijon. I know I don't have a drink 'problem' (unlike both my Parents, who are in total denial), and I do find it surprising how many people are incredulous at my deciding to have a sober month! I do freely admit that I drank to excess from my late teens right up until my bowel operation, four years ago. That was probably the catalyst I needed. Some people are convinced that I am an alcoholic, just because I have a G & T most evenings. I know I am not.

We are going out with a large group of friends this evening, and there will be a bar at the venue. It will be interesting to see how many of them either try to tempt me, and how many take the pee at my sobriety.

It's funny how people hate to see someone not taking their drug of choice - same happens with c*ke and her**n addicts apparently

On a related thing, I'm often struck by how difficult it can be to eat moderately when you're at other people's houses for tea. Difficult because I'm a pig but difficult too because some people aren't happy until their guests are stuffed full and practically comatose.

True Noos - especially in Yorks - I'm originally from Baildon, just over the hill from you and always found that you weren't allowed to leave until in need of a heart bypass lol

You're so right, SJ, even on here people are tempting me with Cake all the time
G4, I drink Tonic when I'm out for the evening and driving. Feels like a real drink and nobody knows that it doesn't have G in it so they don't push you. I don't like G anyway

Darn-it VC - you beat me to the CAAAAAAAAKE joke!

We may not actually bother to go out this evening after all. I want to go, and hubby can't be arrised. Trouble is, I'll get in the bath, and a wave of lethargy will come over me, and I'll decide to stay put. It would be different if the weather was fine, but it's turned wet and wild this afternoon, so we'll probably stay in and watch sh!te on the telly instead.

My drink of choice is lime and soda, ice and slice. Love it! At home it's coffee, or elderflower cordial. The latter, I have to add, is superb in a G & T, if you haven't tried it!

Anyway, good luck to anyone else who has decided to give something up!

Ha ha, very fetching, BM! I'll have a look for that other post - it was something along the lines of you calling yourself a lazy so-and-so - was it something to do with a motorbike? (That sounds a bit far-fetched, even to me - many apols if I have remembered it incorrectly!!)
