I met David on Match.com, which I joined partly as a dare from a friend. I had had two dates, one OK, one desperately BAD, -

My personal 'Venus' (marketing gimmick) kept throwing out the name of this one chap & just before I was going to knock it all on the head as a waste of money I thought I would drop him a line. I arranged to meet him at lunchtime, so I could make an excuse of plans in the evening if things weren't going well. As it was it turned out that we had loads in common, he dropped me home at 3am - that was nearly 6 years ago - ahhhhhh! Not 43 years like some of the Grapes, but I get the impression we are heading that way!

I was working on ships and doing a lot of travelling, was looking to move shoreside as i was getting despratley lonley, i came to visit my parents and went to a pub a guitarist on the ship had recomended as a good jaz place, apart from the band setting up and some young fellow i was the only one there, got talking to young chap, turned out it was his dads band, we swopped numbers so we could go to gigs together when i was up this way.
the pub filled up, young chap got very drunk, i went home, put his number in the bin, next day he rings, on the phone for four hours, next day picks me up takes me out to a music pub, we carried on as friends for ages, he had plans to go to oz for a year so i was'nt going to get involved, but his persistance payed of, i got a txt msg on the ship saying will you marry me, i said yes, he went to oz, i stayed on ship. I went to oz to visit, a couple of months later he picked me up from the ship and we bought a house, that was 2 years ago, getting married on sat.

dec 2000 i became a single dad - 5 years later i saw a dating site for single parents thought i'd give it a go, nothing to lose - joined up got chatting to lots of women but wasn't really enthusiastic cos i felt tied down at home with the kids - but one woman i got chatting to lived "in the same town" and after couple of weeks of chatting she asked where i live - turned out she lived literally over the road - and she'd lived there 5 years and we'd never met (she actually became a single parent and moved in over the road the day after i became a single parent!)

so we met as neighbours and kinda hit it off - took us both by surprise, bit freaky .... but 18 months later we're still seeing each other ......

we do a fair bit of gardening together - she's more a flowers and shrubs person, i'm more fruit and veg - and it's all good !

i used to work summer seasons at various holiday camps. in the winter my mum made me work in her employment agency. Peter hired temp drivers and yardmen from us. I made an impression when one of our drivers nicked the van he was driving and a load of scaffold!!

5 years later i'd finished with the summer seasons. job i was in needed scaffolding. i remembered peter. he'd moved on in the company but as I ordered the stuff I got his new number and rang him.

went for a drink the following week. moved in with him a few weeks later. got engaged a month later and married the following year.

we've been married 13 years now. 2 kids, 1 cat, 3 dogs. its the apathy that keeps us together! no, seriously we are v v happy. wonder why it never got started 5 years earlier? He says we were both different people. Guess he could be right but it would have been nice to have missed out the various random men and 1 disastrously appalling relationship i went through in between!!!!!!
