  • Autumn Blues?

I have noticed the vine has been very quiet lately, is that normal for this time of year?

Is it because we suffering from Autumn Blues? Just in case we are I thought I would try and lighten things up with a very brief synopsis of my gardening year highlights:

Joined the vine in April a quickly found it was a place of wisdom and humour, not to mention addictive.

Moved out of just growing in my garden in May and got back to having an allotment after a five year break.

Spent most of June feeling like David Bellamy in the undergrowth whilst trying to turn my plot into something that resembled an allotment. I also had that inspirational moment when realising if I focused and growing weeds my crops might take over

July saw the first fruits of my labour and little did I know just how many courgettes I would have. A slight mishap around July when my new neighbours were a bit careless with the weedkiller.

August saw the glut of runner beans that will keep us fed for weeks, oh and even more bladdy courgettes! Text from my daughter whist on holiday to say she had watered the plants with dangly bits on.

September, still more courgettes, runners and sublime sweetcorn.

October, well thats still to be decided but at least the courgettes have gone.

I have shared laughter and despair on the vine with people I dont even know but thus far have had a super year and shared the season with people on here who I now consider friends

I love autumn, it's my favourite time of the year, which is a bit weird for a gardener, but the colours are so beautiful, I love the dark evenings and I even like the autumn weather. Spring comes a close second but autumn is best...in my eyes.

The forum doesn't seem at all quiet to me, probably because I'm moderator of another forum which is ultra quiet at the moment!

I must admit I like Spring more than Autumn. When we lived in West Yorkshire we use to go to Skipton quite a bit. On the way there are lots of farms with live stock in. I always knew Spring was here when this one field had lambs in. It was always the first lot of lambs I would see and always in this one specific field.
