I'm new so Hi everyone, just wondering if theres somewhere I can introduce myself and read about everyone else at the same time without creating another thread... Even though I kind of have with this one. Just point me in the right direction and then this one can go into the nether world..

Well i've just moved to Staffordshire from Cleveland to live with my boyfriend whom I met on a dating site last October We have been sorting out his back garden and are keen to start a veggie patch but it is looking like it may have to wait till next year now.

I am in love with herbs though and my mum gave us both a tub with coriander, lemon thyme and some kind of mint which she can't remember what type it is so I may have to post a piccy of it.

We have Geronimo the sunflower making great progress but 3 of his 4 siblings succumbed to something slimy with big gnashers

I am looking for a job but have yet to decide what I want to do with myself. I worked in horseracing for 14 years and quit that in Feb 06 so i've just been lurking about for the past year which is quite sad for a 31 yr old but I had an op last November and am only just getting back to being my normal self really.

My big love is lavender and didn't realise there are so many different varieties so I shall be after some advice about that. I've not really done much gardening before or growing come to that, i'm still 5' 2 despite standing in manure for 14yrs!

My grandad was an expert veg grower and had an allotment for as long as I can remember. He sadly passed in 2004 so I can't get his advice.

Anyhoo, before this becomes a novel I shall depart. I am very glad googling rosemary cuttings brought me here though.

Hey Littleweeme

I am new too. Great thread.

I am a very busy sahm who also crafts and ebays.

We moved into our house 18 months ago. We did make a start on the veggie plot last year by digging over all the lawn to the side of the house. This year we have really gone for it though. We have got; Tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers in the greenhouse and more toms, corgettes, french beans, runner beans, sweet corn, butternut squash, lettuce, raddish, lambs lettuce, pak choi, pumpkins, two different early potatoes, spinach, spring cabbage, garlic, herbs, leeks, beetroot in the plot. Having run out of space we have got a fruit patch with raspberries (3 types - one failed - more on that later in anothe rthread), strawberries (3 types whoch started out last year in tubs) and inherited wild strawberries - now thinned out and de weeded. As that too ran out of space we also have two rubarb which were moved from the veg plot next to an inheried one and then a blackberry which we have planted in what is really a flower bed where we also found more inheried raspberry - PHEW!!!

Crikey you do have some veg and I just checked yr piccy, is that your garden? It looks lovely! I think I need to make a plan of what to plant, when to plant them and how to pray in order to make them grow!!

Jenny, I too am still 5'2" despite 32 years of horse owning. It shouldn't be too late for you to plant some veg this year though. Some things are just coming into their time for planting so you could have a go. There is a thread about planting late crops - thread title 'sowing late crops' - which shows what everyone is planting now, it might help you.

Tammy, sounds like you have a lot happening there. I am still trying to tame my garden after 10 years living here - we spent the first 8 sorting the house out!

I meant to say its def not too late to start - I believe that there are crops that can be started virtualy any time during the year - especialy if you have a greenhouse. Pak choi would be good if planted now -LOL-if you see my other thread in the veg patch you will see why I am laughing as I sowed mine far too early and it has just gone very yellow and now bolted.

Not been here long myself, and have been "growing" veg for almost as short a space of time.

I must say, your boyfriends name is unusual. Is "Herbs" short for Herbert?

I am also 31, but I do think that on school camping trips my mother packed grow-bags instead of sleeping bags, as I am 6ft7 in my stocking-ed feet, maybe you were using the wrong manure?

Since appearing on here I have had plenty of valuable hints and tips passed to me, which have helped me enormously. There is also plenty of encouragement - which has helped on occasion. I reckon I could get to like this gardening lark!

(I actually do already, but shush...)
