Just a quick note, to say that for the 2nd year running I am honored and humbled to have been voted 1st in the VVS for 'best chilli varieties'.

    However:

Next year I have a completely different strategy for my chilli growing, and therefore in next year's VVS, this virtual category will certainly be awarded to another worthy contender....

On a serious note. I am truly delighted to also have 1st place in the show for the kelsaes I grew. I will certainly be growing these again next year.

Thank you all for the votes!!!!

Well done with your second win
What's your secret then for winning for the second year on the bounce?
Just trying to pick your brain as I've been given some seeds by a friend who never has any luck with them. So have said I will give them a go for her.

Well, here is what I do:

      sow all habaneros early feb

      Sow all cayennes early-mid march

I sow in verve seed and cutting compost.

      Pot on gradually.

I use a mixture of around 75% compost and 25% perlite or vermiculite

NEVER over water, if anything keep plants a little 'dry'

Use BIG pots. I.E final pot size being approx 10 litres. (I use flower buckets).

THen just pray for lots of sun!!!

And I have no doubt luck plays a large part too!

        Thanks for that.
See I would never of thought of keeping them possibly a little 'dry' or use a Big pot.I'd probably keep it fairly wet and an average size pot.
Will make a note of your tips in my diary book and hopefully get chance to use them if I get my seeds to germinate

Me too! I love growing chillies but I'm not very good at it so any tips are gratefully received. Maybe next year I'll be able to give chilli grower a run for his money lol

              Hi Scarlet,

              Well nothing too exciting really:

Based on the fact our last 2 summers have been excellent, I have decided that next year I will grow a single variety of cayenne (probably ring of fire).

I will plant a double row of these OUTSIDE at the allotment.

THen in the g/h I will have 6 paper lantern only (for my hot sauce), and for a change I will also grow jalapenos and serranos in the g/h.

              THats it really.

Next year I am aiming for quality, not quantity.

It will be very interesting to see how the chillies get on at the allotment....

Mine have been in pots outside at the allotment or on my balcony all year. The yield's been great, bar the rocotos, which are the slowest growing chillies EVER.
