I've watched some rockets going offing the distance but that's about it for me, they did look pretty.

It's the smell of the bonfire and fireworks I want to experience!

        Lovely!

It occurred to me today that you dont see "Penny for the guy" anymore. Used to make a few bob as a lad doing that.

We always made a guy, but weren't allowed to do "penny for". As I remember, it became such a friend to me that I was always very sad when my brothers threw it on the bonfire!

We had a party last year with fire works and food. The whole row of houses came round. Haven't bothered this year as no one else could be bothered to do anything.
Kids are to tired tonight to do anything but might get some sparklers at the weekend for them.

Parties and celebrations will probably continue through to Saturday given it was a midweek 5th so BM's advice holds true throughout.

Please also check for hedgehogs prior to lighting bonfires and remember to care for pets - although my Basil likes to sit on the windowsill and watch the fireworks!

I always went way overboard with bonfire night, huge bonfires with all the hedge cuttings from the farm, a lot of people and food etc. We loved it. Sadly people don't seem to observe it so much anymore. They have turned to halloween, that and trick or treat are American imports and its a great pity. My own 11 month old grand daughter even got roped in!!!!!!

I refused to let my children do trick or treat or halloween, it seemed like demanding money (or sweets) with menaces to me. Not only that in our area it became a competion as to which parents could afford the best costumes rather than the children making up some sort of garments.

Dont even get me started on mischievious nights BM, We were in a tiny village of 200 people yet had the distiction of three visits by the police one night, I was chased for a mile by one copper only being saved by jumping a hedge and ending up in a slimey farm pond. I have never been so terrified in my entire life.
I remember telling off the local kids some years later for the complete lack of mischief, they were a generation of wimps.
