It has been known for someone to be banned on here for offensive pms.
As a courtesy when banning someone there should be a reason given at the time.
Some mods are not as courteous as others though!
Maybe FB doesn't have the same facilities?
Usually there should be some sort of warning though!"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Forums can be odd, sometimes it is a case of learning the unwritten rules. Also within the forum there is usually one or two items/topics that polarize people, and they are often "minor", and strangely intrinsic to the area that the forum covers.
A forum can be delicately balanced, one I was on some years ago is now extinct, and I am sure the demise was owing to one new member. Single members can change the balance/dynamics quite a lot.
You will find that often an "Open" forum is actually quite closed, if you are not one of the chosen few then you are not really welcome. I have seen one change from Open to Closed, then die.
Another aspect is simply things are different in different parts of the world, even within the UK. A wine making forum in the US is different to one here in the UK. They seem to have a different order of "importance" then is here. What many there count as important is often relatively unimportant here and vice versa.
On a present forum a thread was locked by one of the Admin people, it was turning into an arguement, problem was that the person that caused the divergence into an arguement was one of the Mods. I expect that whatever the topic was hit a nerve with them and it got carried away.
Now about that PhD on Forums and the People on them.

I was a member of a poetry forum for quite a few years, made a lot of friends. It was an American forum and I was asked to read my poetry on a radio show several times. There was one bombastic moderator who i could never get on with, she removed several of my poems for abusive language (in her opinion) but my appeals to the owner of the site always got them reinstated. Well this moderator became the boss! her first act was to remove my one of my poems that had won the spotlight award and been read out on the radio. Her reason was that it contained the word "Fart". I had a bitter arguments with her and got banned for life. It hurt, I lost a lot of friends and a huge chunk of my life was ruined.
You just have to realise that some people just can't handle even the mildest amount of power. It also highlights just what a wonderful group of mods we have on this site. may they long continue.photo album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html

I'd like to think we don't have 'one of the chosen few' on here kirk
....everyone is welcome to jump in with both feet or dibble their toes in as and when they feel like it.
But I agree...
"There's nowt so queer as folk"
...and to quote from Joe Orton's 'What the Butler Saw'
"We've no privileged class here. It's a democratic lunacy we practice"....mixed in of course with a heck of a lot of gardening advice
Well, that's how I see it!
...oh...and of course advice on chooks, flowers, cooking, preserving, bees, wildlife,DIY,wine making...the list goes on!Last edited by Nicos; 13-11-2014, 11:30 AM."Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

......and all the ....isms that you can shake a stick at - especially a pointy one
For the record, I have been Banned from the Vine It was "apparently" a mistake and I was reinstated - but it gives you an awful feeling, that all of you lovely, nutty people may disappear from your life forever, and there is no way back
So play nice, respect other people's views and don't write anything that you wouldn't say to someone's face. Remember that the written word is easy to misinterpret, so be tolerant, we're all different, and long may it continue to be so.

I think it helps that we are very aware that this is a very child friendly site
...so it's not just a matter of accidentally ( or otherwise) insulting/offending adults, it's also about no negative influences on any children who may be watching/listening in"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple
