VC if/when it happens you will not be worried about 'messy stuff'. Watching/helping an animal bring new life into this world is a wonderful experience, you worry about the 'messy stuff' later.

I have a Rhodesian ridgeback, a lurcher and a whippet....and no space on the furniture

Well he would be good looking he is from a Welsh strain!!!! He came to me as a 8 week pup from Jacks Hill farm in Derbyshire but he comes from good Welsh working stock.
Strange though he hadn't got that lovely lilt to his bark.Potty by name Potty by nature.
