Just be very thankful your not dealing with cattle. Think baling twine, round calves legs, foot against cows bum and lots of heave, and finally no way to dodge the mess.
Happy memories for Bill.

What a gorgeous Photo, nellie - thank you - and for all your advice.
I've just told my Mum she's about to become a gt grandmother. All she kept saying was......"Oh...........Ohhhhhh,..........Oooooooooooohhhh" and "wait 'til I tell your brother what you're up to now" as if I was the one having the puppies, not Bessie
OOOH ere mrs, congratulations on the expected births, you sure getting more than you bargained for ,would the place you got her from have any responsability,as in vets fee's,all we can do is wish you and bessie all the best,i not looked in all day,and find this thread,as others have said, lets hope the daddy was not to big, typical, love and leave em,
sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these
I think lottie dollie has some good advice. Contact the sanctuary and tell them about Bessie being 'with pup' when you got her. They might have the ability to scan her or help out practically with any vet fees and/or hand holding during the event. They would also know that they might have some new recruits to their santuary just after Christmas. I would suppose they could offer powder dog milk etc if it became necessary.
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thomas A. Edison

I'm afraid to admit I did laugh when I saw your post. My nan and mom and dad were all dog breeders but I think all the advice I can give you has already been given.
Bessie will find her own 'special' place where she feels safe to have her litter. Where ever it is put newspaper down underneath her blankets, it will protect the floor and make it easier to tidy up afterwards. She will know what to do when the time comes.
Oh congrats on your news. Puppies round the house at xmas going to be a very busy but fun time for you all
Since moving to Spain, i have had pretty much no choice but to take in dogs and run a small shelter type thing as no-one gets their dogs neutered etc. I have raised nearly 60 pups in the last 18 months, most have had to be bottle fed, At the moment i am hand raising 2 11 day old pups which got found in a bin. So anyway i have had a few pregnant gals and know quite a bit. So you can contact me anytime.
The first i was very panicky running around like a mad person and the dog just looked at me turned her back and got on with it.
Enjoy it is a wonderful experience but remember one big point Don't get too attached and keep them all
