Have you seen the size of their toenails, Nicos? They're about the size of blackberry thorns - ever so tiny! They have the weeniest little pink pads too.
Wish I could get hold of one for long enough to take some decent photos. They wriggle and squirm and, once Bessie sees me with one, she paws my hand until I give it back, then washes the poor little thing from head to toe to make sure I haven't got it dirty.
Early days yet - they are still 'the puppies' in a couple of weeks they will be individual personalities and Bessie will be more than happy for a little help on the looking after front!

She must have really bonded with you She trusts you quite a lot, cos many new mum would try to bite your hand off if you touched her new puppies
Bess is very good, let's me pull the puppies out from behind her or pick up the one that's squeaking and aim it at the milk bar. She doesn't like me to hang on to them for long though. When she's been out in the garden and left me alone with them, she checks my hands to make sure that I haven't taken one.
Bess is stroppy with my other dog, Mary, especially when she walks past the puppy enclosure. Old Mary has poor vision, and can't see what's hurtling towards her. I try to keep them apart but it doesn't always work. No blood lost so far
She certainly will Mary's from the same Sanctuary - an ex-puppy farm breeding machine. Apparently, she had 2 litters, both by C-section so they got rid of her. I've had her about 4/5 years and she's about 8.
Here's Mary, Bessie and some of their toys, not long after they met! Mary is a Black & Tan Cavalier and the pup with brown legs has similar markings to Mary. Hope he turns out to look like her.
You will need to keep Mary well away from Bessie and pups. New Mums are very very protective of their Babies. Even the most mild-mannered animal may show aggression to another if they feel challenged.
You're gonna keep them all, aren'tcha!? That's precisely why I had my two 'done' if I'd had pups, I wouldn't have been able to part with any of them.

The honest truth is that if I didn't have such a poorly cat, I'd probably agree; but right now the cat doesn't deserve being upset by a puppy, or a sudden trip to the vets
