annoying adverts

I'm having a bit of bother with the adverts on here.
In particular, the one that irritates me the most completely obscures the name of of whoever wrote the post.

Is here a way to limit their intrusion?
I am using firefox if that makes any difference at all.

And by the way, please write answers as though speaking to a small child....I am something of a luddite

I have a progamme called 10Bit uninstall 4. With that you can check to see what adware has been added to your computer without you knowing. I check that most days, to keep my computer clean of such adware.

you can download an adblock programme. this one is free:https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir.../adblock-plus/

I run one on my laptop - there are so many ads here it made the site incredibly slow to load on my machine. I also found the intrusive ads blocking off the details of who posted something incredibly annoying - and there's no way to close them.
