I don't know what other folks think but I am horrified at what has happened all over the country today. This is copied from the US and is another example of the socially unacceptable that has come over the ocean.

Have to agree AP! How desperate do you have to be to get squashed alive whilst buying a rubbish brand tv?!!You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...
I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!
-
There are people on the streets starving not knowing where their next meal is coming from and these numpties are fighting over a 50" television! (probably to sell on!) Get real for cripes sake!
If this is what materialism/capitalism is all about God help us!My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

Black Friday is a post thanks giving sale in the US. Its got nothing to do with us and should stay in the US. I am not being anti american, I quite like America, it is just a rather blatant ploy from some retailers over here to try and squeeze more money out of us. The sad thing is it appears to have worked.

Unfortunately where one big name retailer adopts the trend the rest are compelled to follow. I tried to get on the Currys website this evening (actually to look for something that I knew beforehand would very likely NOT be included in the sale today), and demand on the site was such that they were running a queue system for access; bit like when you go to a clinic, take a ticket and then wait for your number to be called.
eBay have been getting involved (bit odd IMO given their status as an AUCTION website). Even small online retailers and one-shop independents' in my area have had sales. Crazy!
Bit like the petrol really; one retailer shaves a few pence off a litre, the rest match it.
People can be fickle. Sometimes the saving is so small as to be not worth the effort. But a well publicised promotion overules commonsense.

I had to call into Te##o yesterday. Couldn't avoid it so just went for it. It wasn't that bad but did over hear a guy arguing with a shop assistant about one of those fancy coffee makers.
She was putting out the £99 ones and he was looking for the one that they'd reduced to something daft like £30. He just failed to grasp that the one she had in her hand was £99 and if he turned round the one he wanted was behind him. He was armed with a newspaper and wasn't looking at the advert properly.
My OH said that it was one the news by several finance people that this could really bite the retailers in then bum. All these people buying what they don't need now what are they going to have to spend nearer Madmas? Probably nothing so the shops will loose out.
Didn't really think this one out did they?sigpic

I'd never heard of it until yesterday when I saw the fighting on the TV.
For a second I wondered if the stock market had crashed as in Black Monday back in '87"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

I already added this subject to "Minor rants" Its all about selling goods and nothing to do with customs or history. We have already had trick or treat thrust upon us from America and also halloween which was rarely celebrated when i was young. Yet our own celebrations such as bonfire night seem to be slipping away and yet the whole point of bonfire night is to celebrate the survival of our democracy.
I must have had 20 e-mails from amazon about black friday. Our culture is under threat from America and from many other cultures, to the point where it is not deemed acceptable to have a Christmas tree in our schools anymore for fear of offending other religions.photo album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html
