To those who deserve it

I am not going to add fuel to the fire, but just wanted to say the children that really scare me are the teenagers that are adamant they want to be just like mummy/daddy and spend time in jail

When we lived in the country and had had a spate of breakins into peoples houses. I kept a shot gun under the bed. I had decided that if ever anyone broke in I would fire a shot into the cieling above their heads. If that didn't stop them then i would blast their legs of feet. But I dont think I could take anyones life.
However you are right Potty in that my wife and childrens safety would be more important to me than any laws. This is simply self preservation and is anyones right. But the case in the original post was purely mob justice and is actualy the break down of the law and order that is what makes us civilised.

In this case, the justice meted out by the mob was quite witty (though where did the clingfilm spring from? It doesn't seem spontaneous - are we sure the whole thing isn't a spoof?) and although it was humiliating for the person who committed the crime, it seemed appropriate and no lasting harm was done.

But I agree with Bill (again) - I think you have to look at the principle to judge whether it's right or wrong. And the principle of mobs taking the law into their own hands can never be right because mobs often get things wrong, can be controlled by powerful people with their own agendas, and can also whip each other up into real excesses of violence. Klu Klux Klan springs to mind).

So, maybe it was appropriate and even funny this time but next time it might not be.

Not because of any complaints, but just because I think it's a good moment to personally reflect on ramifications of actions.

An interesting thread BM and it certainly has got people thinking as to the rights and wrongs of such an action.
