I might have a go at pouring brandy on them and letting OH play pyromaniac! Sandwiches on standby methinks.

It is going to be an odd one this year as it will be the first with just the two of us for five years. And the first one in France with just us.

My mum has come out to stay for the last four years, and the year before we were with her as we were on the point of moving here, also my dad died that December. This year she has announced that she wants to be on her own (she has lots of friends locally so won't be) so we don't know what to do with ourselves.

No presents as we don't need anything and don't do buying stuff for the sake of it. Bah humbug! A nice meal and a good walk if the weather is up to it.

As I spent last Chrimbo/New Year having twice daily injections I shall also be celebrating sitting down in comfort

Bah, Humbug! I spent my working life in the retail food trade and by the time it came to the day i was worn out, so never enjoyed it. Our daughter who has split from her patner, is coming for 2 days and asked for steak and new tatties, so that will be great.
Apart from the grandkids, no adult pressies alowed.

Me and the other half will be spending Christmas with my grandparents is sunny Rhyl ! North Wales. I'm normally the first one up which gives me time to start getting things ready for Christmas dinner. This will be the second year that I've cooked because I don't let anyone else cook my home reared Turkey. Then my grandparents get up and I help them get there breakfast ( just to get them out of the kitchen quicker ). Then the other half gets up and he takes the dog for a walk. Forgot to say we take seven with us ( 13 year old collie ), don't think we would be allowed in the door if we didn't have seven with us ! Then we all sit around and Wight for my hung over uncle and partner to hall themselves out of bed. By this time about 10am I'm starting to get a nervous twitch because I'm still like a child and really really want to open presents . To be fair I like to watch everyone opening there presents. I normally know what most of mine are as I wrapped them myself a couple of days before. Grandparents can't wrap presents anymore due to many different ailments and the other half just can't be arsed so I often wrap my gift from him too . Then I'm back in the kitchen, hopefully having drinks brought to me at regular intervals. In between cooking & drinking I'm getting the dinning room (also known as our bedroom for the christmas period) ready. Then we eat & drink. Then old people fall asleep in front of the TV. That's about it till we do it all again next year.

It always amazes me how many 'cunning plans' people have for getting people out of the kitchen - Well Done you lot

That's not something I can understand. For me, Christmas has always been one of those occaisions when everybody is in the kitchen, part of the fun, all mucking in together and having a laugh to produce something together. Reminds me of childhood times and the very togetherness is to thing for me, regardless of your actual connection.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Don't be sad, Flo. Its my choice. I'll probably go to my brother's for an hour or so, and see my Mum there, but I'm really not into the Christmad thing. Never have been since I was kid.
If I want to give someone a gift, I'd rather do it during the year, for no particular reason, than feel obliged to do it because its Christmad. Does that make sense?

Phew, that's a relief. I had visions of doing all your washing up otherwise

My brother is coming down to me from deepest darkest Stanglia for a fortnight
So I need to make emergency loo provisions in my shed as he takes aaaaages in the bathroom!
My neighbour usually cooks the turkey and we join her and her son and anyone of her family - hopefully the same again this year. This year the presents will be pet presents only and I will take bro out shopping as he doesn't have a huge range of shops where he lives. Apart from a brilliant butcher so he is responsible for bringing the sausages. He forgot them last year and left them in the fridge at his place grrrrrr!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

If the weather's clear, out for a walk to the top of the local hill to watch the sun rise, before anyone else is about - very peaceful.

Walk round the fields home, special breakfast of toast, home cooked ham and pork pie, posh coffee with a splash of cream saved from the trifle made for lunch (normally porage and instant)

Put "Carols from Kings" on the box and chill out till lunch.

I've had enough of doing huge dinners for all the family, so lunch for two, couple of glasses of fizz (I'm a 364 day a year tee-totaller), old film on TV after lunch, (nearly always M.P. or S.O.M. isn't it?) the Queen (for Mum), then ham 'n pork pie salad for tea, with leftover trifle and mince pies.
                            Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
                            Endless wonder.

We will go to our Daughters as usual, Turkey cooked, potatoes and all other veg prepared. We take it all with us so that she doesn't have to go too much before we get there. She does all the puddings though.
Last year we watched them all on FaceTime opening their presents. That was truly lovely, something we hadn't witnessed for a long time. Hope this happens again
