Good thinking, I thought - and cheap as I don't have to buy/beg a uphosterers staple gun from anywhere, and I have oodles of fabric up in the attic room - but the downside is that it took over an hour just to do one last night.
A staple gun thingy can be bought for £3 - if you also buy a staple removal thingy you could remove all the staples fairly quickly to allow the cover to be cleaned - However, I think your solution is better in the long run as you might eventually run out of solid wood to re-staple the cover after it has been cleaned a few times. Good luck :-)

          • Mornin!

we've been living off grid for 3 days in the Lake District!

Spring water showers , heated by a special woodstove are to die for!!

We had about 2" snow and went tobogganing!!...fantastic...feel like I've finally had my winter now!
Pity it was one day too late for me to enter the snowman comp eh???

Been feeling a little below par since yesterday. Just aching and tired, not sure what is but probably something to do with age. Lovely day yesterday and I couldn't even get enthused about going to the plot

              • Morning, we've had a bit of overnight snow here now much so Mr Pots still doesn't get to use his new snow shovel

Shen last time I covered the chairs I did it Hazels way but this was just a upholstery fabric remnant bought from the charity shop best bit it matches the terracotta walls plus it was only a £1

                • Morning all. Well, three days after the closing of the snowman competition I have snow!! It's quite deep but probably too wet to make a real snowman, but for the first time this winter I have real snow! Who said spring was coming?! Off to York this weekend and it's supposed to be around 15 degrees then...sublime to ridiculous comes to mind but right now I'm enjoying the SNOW!!

If I'd have known that they were so cheap, I might have got one! I hear what you say about running out of wood to staple to, but my method still involves compromising the wooden base in time - I have to unscrew the squab from the frame if I want to take off the shower caps - they may be only secured with elastic, but the chair backs butt right up the the squab so you can't tuck the shower cap cover between the squab and the frame.

Hope you're feeling more up to going to the plot today GL - it's looks lovely out there from here behind the desk, and at least one of us should be out there enjoying it!

                      • Morning all. Well we didn't get the snow they said we would get. Had got the car ready last night just in case so we could get OH to work first thing.
Very sunny here at the moment but cold with it. Going to see my mom and dad this morning and arrange for the kids to stop this weekend. Hopefully by Saturday/sunday the allotment will of dried out and I can get my spud area dug over again without any helpers.
                        Have a good day everyone

Hazel - there is always the old fashioned method of using upholstery tacks

I'm impressed - £1 to cover a chair - I've spent more on staples and tacks

Shen it gets better that £1 's worth of fabric covered all 4 chairs
