Waves to Susie Welcome back. I knew you'd be OK
Glad you enjoyed it even though MrQ couldn't be with you. There is nowhere in the world to rival Egyptian history. Absolutely fascinating. Which site did you like best?
Hi VC - Luxor Temple at night was staggeringly lovely, but Abu Simbel I think. It was virtually deserted, perhaps 2 coachloads of people there when we were. It was like having a VIP visit. The sheer size and clarity of the hieroglyphs was amazing and as for the setting, well .... naively I had not realised how close it still is to the water's edge and so it is a wonderful counterpoint to the aridity of the rocks and desert. I think we all felt the same because everyone spoke in hushed tones, outside! It really was awesome, in the true meaning of the word.
Aaah - Luxor at night with the floodlighting of the columns, picking out the decoration - quite magical. So different to being there during the day.
Abu Simbel - somewhere very special. We had a holiday on Lake Nasser on an old paddle wheeler, paddling around the rescued monuments. We moored up alongside the Temples at Abu Simbel after dark and had our own little Son et Lumiere. Just before dawn, we left the boat and walked to the main entrance door. The guide produced an enormous Ankh and with great panache opened the huge door. We were told to stand to the sides of the doorway and wait for the sun to rise. Slowly, a shaft of sunlight entered the doorway and traced its way across the floor before it reached the very back of the temple and illuminated the heiroglyphs. Utterly breathtaking.
Happy memories
My cat must be going through some kind of a crisis - normally she hates people but for the last 2 weeks or so she has crawled onto my lap every night after dinner and after a prolonged period of petting has settled down for the evening - prior to this I got this treatment two nights a year at most. She is 18 - anybody got an explanation for the change in behaviour?

Morning all, sorry Shen can't help with your cat but our dogs are 13 and 11 and have become very lazy...almost like cats, sleeping most of the day and they are a lot more cuddlier than they ever where. Maybe just an age thing?
Well, it's a beautiful sunny morning here, going to get my hair cut and maybe a little colour to hide those grey hairs which are appearing at an alarming rate! Hope you all have a lovely day.
Happy Thursday Grapeys
Let the sunshine, Let the sunshine in, the sunshiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine Innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Did I mention that its sunny here?
My day has started well. Carrying a tray that is not quite large enough for 4 bowls of doggy breakfasts - cooked chicken livers all sloppy on biscuits - into the kitchen. An excited puppy jumps up, tray tilts, bowl slides off tray and empties all over kitchen floor. Cue 4 very excited dogs hunting down the scattered food.
The good news is, they've licked the floor clean
Have a good day everyone - I'm going to play with my squashy things
I've just been admiring our wild cherry tree.
It's enormous and covered in loads of white bunches of snowballs of blossom.
They're still coming out...in a day or two I think it'll reach it's peak!
My protected black cherry on the other hand is still just about thinking of bud break ( do you say bud break for blossom? )
