  • Not really but my youngest is my project manager. Their reasoning is that I would be better off with a modern kitchen with oven and hob more available in the future. I may be 68 but I am in no way disabled. I am very fit and I really don't need a kitchen designed for someone disabled which is their plan.

I know they're thinking of the future but ......

    • I always wanted an Aga - so, when I had a new kitchen I had one. My kitchen, my money, my choice.
We're the same age, Janie. Don't let anyone persuade you that you're old before your time.

Thankyou VC, I think you have just given me the umph to insist on what I want. It has taken me all my life to get my own house so why should I not have what I want in it. As you've said my money, my kitchen, my choice.

        • Evening all.
Took the kids down to the allotment and they did their favourite job of filling the water butts up with the hose pipe. Managed to do a bit of weeding so going down tomorrow to finish off.
          Have a good evening everyone

          • Well, Ladies, I have always wanted an Aggie (that's what I call them, and that's what I shall call mine WHEN I get one!) I'm with VC, don't let 'them' tell you that you dont want one!! If THEY don't like them, THEY don't have to have one!

Hubby had a customer, recently, who had been ill. Their family members were treating them as if they were on their last legs! Hubby (who is faaaaaar more reserved and polite than me) suggested that they bide their time, and make their own decisions, rather than be 'steam-rollered' onto something just to keep the peace.)

I know, it's none of my business, but you know I always have an opinion!

            • Well, my point of view is that I've worked all my life and am still working. My parents and grandparents lived into their late 80's to mid 90's. 2 of them were still working when they died. I intend to stop working when I get to 70. I've also signed on to an Open University degree course (this will be my 2nd degree) in this case something I'm actually interested in rather than what my father bulldozed me into.

Thankyou Auntie. You've given me the freedom in my old age to do what I want.

              • I always wanted an Aga but my kitchen is a little to small to have an Aga and a cooker....it's been bloody sweltering in there for the week but I wouldn't swap it!

                • My Aga is electric. Not very economical to run but easy to install as it plugs into a cooker socket.
I had a 2 ring gas hob put in beside it and the microwave can be used as a fan oven or grill. In summer I turn the Aga off and use the hob and micro, and various gadgets like deep fryer, steamer, toaster.
I think you can buy a 2 oven Aga that's the same size as a normal stove and a matching conventional stove.

Mine is gas it's on 24/7 my gas bills are huge i 've been waiting for a kitchen extension for 15year so that I can get a second cooker in. Wiki says....a gas aga uses as much gas in one week as a gas oven will use in 9 months.

                        • Morning Carrie, morning all

Awoken early this morning by our resident nesting sparrows, they can be very loud in the morning especially when the sun is shining like today. As much as I love the sun my plants equally love the rain and 45 mins worth in a month is really taking its toll on things. I am wearing plasters on my knuckles where they are beginning to drag on the floor with countless trips with the watering cans.

Such a fickle species......Too dry, too wet, too cold, too hot etc. Guess we will never please us all, all of the time.

Hope you all have a great Monday

                            • Morning all, another dull morning here and it looks as though it has been raining overnight. Think we will give up on summer here, although my OH informs me there is still time!
Tiler came to tile the kitchen floor yesterday but to give us a good run with big tiles in the centre, he planned the floor in a certain way only to find that although he had told us the correct amount of tiles to buy he was two tiles short because of how he had cut them, (if that makes sense) you've guessed it the tile warehouse was shut yesterday! He looked as though he was going to cry. He is coming back this afternoon, so this morning hubby is going to pick up the tiles and I am having the first morning without any of the kitchen guys in so I am putting up my feet and watching TV with my breakfast! Ahh how can something so simple be so nice?!
We are one small door, one plinth and two handles short...not too bad in the grand scheme of things. Will all be finished by Friday....Yay!

                              • Morning.

The sun is out here and it looks like it's set for the day. Don't give up on summer yet Jay, BBC News was hinting at a record-breaking August heatwave so maybe the ripples of that will make their way up north to cheer up your tiler.

Have a nice day everyone whatever you're doing today.
