  • The mixture sounds fine Haze but the mixture should sizzle when you pour it in.

      • Useful article, thank you, BM.

I didn't leave the batter to rest in the fridge, my oven could have been up a notch, and I think the fat smoking on the hob.

I don't make yorkies very often (for this reason!!), yet I suspect that - as with so many things - practise would make perfect.

          • NOW thats how mine have been for a while now Hazel,i feel really cheesed off,as i was known for my big pudz, they used to get so bib all 12 were just connected, the flour i got on best with was the strong white bread,i have been saying for a while now,i wonder if the flour mills have done something different with it,either added or taken something out, yes,i know it should be just ground up wheat but,i feel cheated,

            • I always find the recipe quantities leave you with a slightly thicker mixture than I prefer.

I would love to help you but my main claim to fame in the kitchen goes back to the time when my 5 year old daughter visiting my wife in hospital told her 'Mum, Dad burnt the water. and that was on a good day

Lottie - In later years when I was hill walking and staying at youth hostels and bothies I was able to burn bacon, eggs sausages and beans as well as any of my fellow hill walking companions as we took turns - nobody ever complained to our faces

                        • Fail safe Yorkshire puds - well it works for me ish.
                          2 people = 1 egg so 4 people = 2 eggs.
Break eggs into a mug put the same amount of flour into another mug besides it, Empty mug with the eggs in into a bowl and then use that mug to measure out the milk using the flour mug as a guide.
Empty mugs into a bowl add a splash of vinegar then beat the ell out of it.
Leave it for a couple of hours - not in the fridge.
Make sure the oil in your pan/dish is piping hot before you pour the mix in.
                          Cook until they look cooked!

                            • Morning Cari, Morning All Strangely there was nothing to scrape off the car this morning, but it's still mighty cold!
Hazel did you heat the fat in the tin, in the oven? That way the whole tin gets hot and the fat smokin'. I don't use a deep muffin tin either - shallow tart tin. I use the cheapest flour from Tezzies and don't go overboard on the eggs. I tend to cook a dozen at a time and freeze some just loosely wrapped in foil. The Aunt Bs bake at home are good if all else fails. They're in foils so you can just do a couple at a time. Phew, you can tell me to shut up, verbal diarrhoea on a Monday morning
Have a good day, see you later
