I'm not that keen on turkey (I'll eat it... if it's organically raised..) - we're having a rib of beef again (forerib). That's ~3Kg and cost £49.50 from a local vegbox company (who sourced it from Thornhill farm shop, for ye yolkels - came from midwales)

Our turkey is part of a hamper of locally-grown meat that will feed us for weeks. This means that, even though the hamper cost loads, I can kid myself that the turkey itself cost next to nothing.

I've asked Mrs H to follow Jamie Oliver's advice on cooking it this year.

Very good Martin...my husband took a few moments to twig it was a spoof

My family celebrates Yule (which was Sunday) and we had a dozen pidgeons shot by my brother so free, ethically reared goose which was breathtakingly expensive (but I didn't have to buy it) and a large ham (which was down to me) that was half price at 3 quid a kilo.

I am always in charge of the hams and cook them in coke ala Nigella Lawson. We share one at Yule and then each family gets one to take home. A weird tradition but we like it

For xmas day (never being one to turn down a party) we will have another enormous ham and a small, organic chicken. The chicken cost 13 quid.
And of course....a veritable mountain of little sausages wrapped in bacon!

How Much? I would never sleep worrying about the cost.

Well, I have to say I was completely staggered when my Sister-in-Law told me how much they paid for their Turkey.

Yes, it was a HOOOOGE Bronze. Well over 20lb, so about 9KG, I think. Yes, it was Organic and Free Range. It was also boned, stuffed and rolled, which would've added to the cost.

It fed 7 and a baby on the day, most of whom had seconds, and it provided very large food parcels to 3 households, but really! I think she nearly fainted when she discovered what she had to pay for it. Makes it dafter when you realise they've both been in catering, so should know how much things like that would cost.

Anyway, I'm gonna let you guess. Just 'cause I can!

              You will be shocked!

Ours was a free range turkey breast joint and was £7.99 a kg. Ten of us ate nearly half of it and the other half has provided sliced meat for yesterday and will make a few pies tomorrow. What makes it even better is that Himself paid for it

                    I'd reckon about £15.00 a kg G4, anywhere close?

Big bucks! W@itrose Organic turkeys were nearly £13 per kg.
It was probably £20+ per KG £200?

You'd pay less from a butcher / farm though

My local farm was the same but I took my chance on them being reduced on Christmas Eve

I bought one a few years ago from the farm which was an extra they'd frozen. Was half price and great for a family gathering at Easter.
